Months after his mom stabbed him, 6-year-old boy dies after collapsing at school
WOODSTOCK, the Bronx — A 6-year-old boy who had been stabbed by his mom in April collapsed at his school Friday morning and died at the hospital, according to a source.
The child collapsed while waiting in a lunch line at the Port Morris School on Friday and was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln by EMS, where he was pronounced dead, according to police.
“I’m heartbroken by this tragic loss of a student, and my thoughts are with the family and school community,” Schools Chancellor Richard Carranza said. “We are working in partnership with City agencies as they investigate, and are providing additional guidance counselors and support to the school for as long as needed.”
The call came in at 11:37 a.m. Friday for an unconscious individual at the school.
The boy and his sister were allegedly stabbed by their mother in April near Washington Avenue and Brook Avenue in Morrisania.
The woman, Shanice Martin, 24, was charged with assault, child abandonment, endangering the welfare of a child and criminal possession of a weapon.
She was taken to a local hospital for psychiatric evaluation; she is awaiting trial.
Her children were treated at a hospital and released.
