Police in Ohio shoot and kill person shortly before Derek Chauvin verdict
Police in Ohio shot and killed a person Tuesday – less than an hour before fired Minneapolis cop Derek Chauvin was found guilty of murdering George Floyd, reports said.
The fatal shooting happened on Legion Lane in Columbus after officers were called there for a disturbance just after 4:30 p.m., WBNS-TV reported.
The victim, whose identity was not immediately released, taken to Mount Carmel East in critical condition, but later died at the hospital, according to the news outlet.
A video circulated on social media Tuesday night and appeared to show the victim – who was wearing bright-colored sneakers and ripped jeans — lying motionless on the ground as a white police officer stood nearby.
“This is the racist ass b—h that shot this poor f–king girl,” a bystander is heard shouting, according to the 13-second clip.
“He f–king shot this girl, talking about how she tried to stab him, the f–k. That’s somebody’s f–king daughter b—h.”
Bystanders in another apparent video from the scene identified the victim as a 15-year-old girl.
Police said no officers were hurt during the incident.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting were not immediately clear.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation was responding to the shooting, the news outlet reported.
The shooting unfolded shortly before a jury found Chauvin, who is white, guilty of second and third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter in the May 25, 2020 killing of Floyd, who was black.
