Employee kills 1 in shooting at Texas industrial park, suspect in custody
An employee opened fire at a central Texas custom cabinet company Thursday — killing one person and leaving four others in critical condition, according to local reports.
A state trooper was also shot and seriously wounded while pursuing the unidentified suspect, officials said.
The gunfire erupted at the corporate offices of Kent Moore Cabinets around 2:30 p.m. in the town of Bryan, just outside Texas A&M University, according to Houston’s ABC 13.
After a manhunt for the shooter in the area between Austin and Houston, the suspect was arrested in nearby Grimes County, police told the station.
“A DPS Trooper was shot while pursuing an individual suspected of being involved in the shooting in Bryan. He remains in serious but stable condition,” the Texas Department of Public Safety tweeted.
A sixth person was hospitalized after suffering an asthma attack, according to the article.
No motive has been released for the deadly workplace violence.
Texas Governor Greg Abbot issued a statement about the shooting, and said a police officer was injured while capturing the suspect.
“I have been working closely with the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Texas Rangers as they assist local law enforcement on a swift response to this criminal act,” Abbot said.
“Their efforts led to the arrest of the shooting suspect. The state will assist in any way needed to help prosecute the suspect. Cecilia and I are praying for the victims and their families and for the law enforcement officer injured while apprehending the suspect.”
