Redding police shoot, kill woman who struck officer with car
Police in Northern California shot and killed a woman after she struck an officer with car, trapping him under a tire, authorities said Thursday.
Officers were called to the Discovery Village shopping center in Redding Wednesday evening, where a 62-year-old woman was yelling and cursing at patrons of a pizza parlor, a police statement said.
The woman finally left but continued to cause a disturbance in the parking lot for about 20 minutes before a security guard who had confronted her called police, the statement said.
Arriving officers found the woman in a car. In trying to leave, she nearly hit an officer, then backed up, hitting an officer with a front tire. He fell down and was pinned under the tire, police said.
To keep the car from moving, the other officer shot out a tire, then shot at the woman and fatally wounded her, police said.
She was from Yuba County but her name wasn’t immediately released.
The officer who was struck by her car was treated at a hospital. He was released and is expected to make a full recovery, police said.

Man’s wife sells his PlayStation 5 after discovering he lied about it being air purifier
A Taiwanese man was lucky enough to score the new Playstation 5, but his time with the device was short-lived because his wife sold the console when she found out it wasn’t an air purifier like he’d told her, NewsNation Now reports.
The buyer, Jin Wu, shared the experience on Facebook. Wu said he arranged to meet up with the seller in person and even called to verify the purchase, but was met by a female voice, who he said didn’t sound like she was much of a gamer.
Wu added that the “price is also the cheapest to find on the day.”
When Wu met the seller to claim his new PS5, he was greeted by a sad husband instead of his wife.
After a short exchange about where the device was purchased, the husband admitted that he tricked his wife into thinking the game console was an air purifier and said that she was the one who wanted to sell the console.
“I went silent after seeing the look in his eyes. I could feel his pain,” the Facebook post read.
The post concluded: “Seems like women can still tell the difference between a PS5 console and an air purifier.”

Alaskan teen suspected of fatally shooting family after release from jail
An Alaskan teenager is being accused of shooting four relatives Monday — just a week after being released from jail on charges of family assault, according to a report.
Malachi Maxon is accused of first shooting his 18-year-old cousin, Cody Roehl, at home near Wasilla, Alaska, around 3 p.m. Authorities were tipped off when they received a call saying there was a suicide at the house and found an injured Roehl, reports Fox News.
Maxon then stole a Jeep Liberty and semi-automatic Glock pistol and traveled to his aunt’s house in Palmer.
He proceeded to break into the residence and shot his aunt, Kimora Buster, as well as his 7-year-old cousin Ellison and 10-year-old cousin Sienna Buster.
Both children were pronounced dead at the scene, while Kimora succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
“The scene revealed spent cartridge casings outside the broken front window, and the number of bullets fired at each person appeared to be about the same,” according to police documents.
One child managed to survive the slaughter, a 6-year-old referred to in charging documents as “AB.” The child was sleeping in the same bed as Ellison when Maxon opened fire.
According to police, AB was spared due to defective bullets.
“In the bed where Ellison and AB were found, there were several more bullet defects than there were with the other bodies that indicated Maxon was likely trying to shoot AB, who was sleeping near the wall,” the document read.
Police managed to locate Maxon and the stolen vehicle through the court-ordered monitoring device that Maxon was required to wear.
After a brief scuffle with state troopers in which he attempted to escape, Maxon was subdued and arrested.
He faces four first-degree murder charges, attempted first-degree murder, second-degree theft, first-degree vehicle theft, third-degree assault and first-degree attempted escape.

Florida man allegedly sets love interest on fire because she was dating his stepdad
Fuming about an unrequited love, a Florida man allegedly set a woman on fire after finding out she was in a relationship with his stepfather, according to a report.
Luis Angel Quinonez, 53, was accused of dousing Angelica Acosta Blanco, 61, with gasoline and igniting her, the Sun-Sentinel reported, citing the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
Firefighters responding to the home in Lantana at 10:30 p.m. Monday found Quinonez using a garden hose on the burning woman after she ran outside, according to the news outlet.
Quinonez told investigators he was furious about the “romantic relationship” between Acosta Blanco and his stepfather, Feliberto Alvarez, because he also was in love with her, police said.
The woman had lived in the family’s home for years and had cared for Quinonez’s mother until she died about a month ago, according to the Sun-Sentinel. Alvarez lived in a separate home nearby.
Quinonez said that when he discovered that Acosta Blanco was involved with his stepfather, he stormed off to a gas station and filled a container with fuel.
Police said Quinonez, who said he had been drinking, then returned home, poured the gasoline on Acosta Blanco and set her on fire using a lighter.
The victim was taken to a local hospital in critical condition and then flown to Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami with second- and third-degree burns.
Her condition was not immediately available.
Quinonez was charged with attempted first-degree murder and held without bond in the Palm Beach County Jail.

Kentucky mayor, driving under the influence, falls asleep in White Castle drive-thru, crashes into pole
A Kentucky mayor was arrested for driving under the influence after falling asleep in a White Castle drive-thru line and crashing into a utility pole Tuesday night, authorities said.
Louisville Metro Police officers found Shively Mayor Beverly Chester-Burton standing outside her silver Cadillac after smashing into a pole as she was trying to leave the parking lot around 11 p.m., the Louisville Courier-Journal reported.
Witnesses said Chester-Burton fell asleep behind the wheel at the fast-food drive-thru line, and people even had to knock on her window to wake her up, according to a police report obtained by the outlet.
Cops reported Chester-Burton reeked of alcohol and failed a sobriety test when she couldn’t walk in
Chester-Burton, who was elected Shively’s first black mayor in 2018, told police she had dinner and two apple martinis at 5 p.m., but then changed her story, saying she had the drinks at 9 p.m., the police report states.
The mayor was booked into the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections and released Wednesday. She’s set to be arraigned Friday.

UK mom weeps after being cleared of knowingly having sex with underage boy
A UK mom wept in court Thursday as she was cleared of knowingly having sex with a boy who was only 14 years old — after he admitted previously lying about his age to set up a social media account, according to reports.
Mom of three Teah Vincent, 32, admitted to initiating sex with the teen after inviting him and a pal into her Glousterceshire home — but insisted she thought he was 16, the legal age of consent in the UK.
She had told the court that it was only after they were finished in bed that the schoolboy “panicked” and confessed his tender age.
She was cleared of knowingly having sex with an underage boy after the court was told how he had lied about his age before, including when setting up a Facebook profile when he was too young to be approved, the Sun said.
He admitted to the online lie in court but still insisted that he “definitely did not tell [Vincent] I was 16 going on 17” before they had sex in October 2018, the court report said.
The jury of eight men and four women deliberated for just one hour and four minutes before clearing her of the underage sex crime, leaving her in floods of tears, the Sun said.
Her attorney, Catherine Flint, had reminded jurors in her closing arguments that they had to put aside any feelings that Vincent’s behavior may have been “morally questionable.”
“Your role is not to make moral judgments, but to decide if she broke the law,” Flint had said.
“Can you be sure he told her he was 14 before they had sex or had he lied about his age? You’d be hard-pressed to find a young teenager who doesn’t wish they were a few years older,” the defense attorney said.
Vincent wrote a joyful “NOT GUILTY” on her Facebook page under the name Teah Leanne as she posed alongside a friend outside court.
“THANKYOU EVERYONE THAT STOOD BEHIND ME AND BELIEVED ME ITS BEEN THE HARDEST TWO YEARS OFF MY LIFE,” she wrote.
“WELLCOME 2021 FOR ME AND MY KIDS,” said Vincent, who had faced a possible jail term.

11-Year-Old Calif. Boy Dies by Apparent Suicide During Online Class, Officials Say
An 11-year-old California boy has died in an apparent suicide while he was attending distance learning classes, authorities said.
Deputies responded just after 11 a.m. on Wednesday to reports that a person had been shot in a house in Woodbridge, the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
Upon arrival, deputies found a juvenile with a head injury who was rushed to a nearby hospital.
The sheriff’s office said the child died of his injuries from a self-inflicted gunshot wound several hours later.
Deputy Sandra Mendez, a spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office, told the Stockton Record that the child and his sister were both attending virtual schooling when the incident occurred.
She said the victim’s computer audio and video were not turned on when the gun fired, but that his sister heard from a separate room and ran to check on him.
PEOPLE is launching a year-long initiative to encourage readers to have vital conversations about their mental health
After finding him injured, she alerted her Zoom classroom and ran to the home of a neighbor, who called 911, ABC affiliate KXTV reported.
“The sister [came] here, banging on the door,” a neighbor who called for help told NBC affiliate KCRA. “That little boy was one the nicest little boys you’ll ever want to know. He was special. Easygoing. He was the type of person who would never hurt anybody. Soft-spoken, with a beautiful smile.”
The child was a sixth-grader at Woodbridge Elementary School, which offered its condolences in a statement shared by Lodi Unified School District Superintendent Cathy Nichols-Washer.
“We are deeply saddened to share that a student from Woodbridge Elementary School passed away today as a result of a gunshot wound,” Nichols-Washer wrote. “Counseling and bereavement support services are available to students and staff during this difficult time.”
“Our thoughts are with the family affected by this terrible tragedy. We also offer our condolences to the Woodbridge Elementary community,” she added.
Stockton Mayor Michael Tubbs also offered his condolences to the child’s family and friends.
“During this time, we have to check in on each other and our children, and know that community is the antidote to crisis,” he wrote on Twitter. “We have to prioritize our children as we persist through this pandemic.”

Keke Palmer Shows Her Acne After Learning She Has Polycystic Ovary Syndrome
Keke Palmer is showing her acne in the hopes of helping others who are also struggling with their skin.
The Hustlers star, 27, posted three bare-faced selfies on Instagram and shared that after years of trying to get rid of her acne and working with doctors to understand why it wouldn’t go away, she finally learned that she has polycystic ovary syndrome, or PCOS.
“For some of you this may be TMI, but for me my platform has always been used for things much greater than me,” she said. “Polycystic [ovary] syndrome has been attacking me from the inside out my entire life and I had no idea.”
Palmer said that she has “tried EVERYTHING” to minimize her acne, including doing two rounds of Accutane, an intensive treatment for severe acne, changing her diet and drinking more water. The actress and singer said that she had trouble finding a doctor who would investigate her skin trouble.
“It took ME taking a personal look into my family that has a history of diabetes and obesity, to understand what was ACTUALLY happening with me,” she said. “And unfortunately doctors are people and if you don’t ‘look the part’ they may not think that’s your problem. They may not even suggest it if you ‘look healthy’ whatever that means!”
Palmer said that after reading up on PCOS, she went to a doctor who was able to confirm that she has the hormonal disorder, which causes enlarged ovaries and cysts and often comes with side effects like acne, excessive hair growth and weight gain. But that she needed to do the research on her own frustrated Palmer, and she said that her family similarly struggled to understand their health.
“This especially makes me sad because my family struggled for years and no doctor could help them, they actually mislead them and just took their money,” she said. “It’s only because of what my family sacrificed that allows me to even have the resources to share the information I’m sharing with you! Their fight out of poverty gave me a better life and I just want to share what I learn.”
Palmer said she’s sharing her story — and her acne — to let others know “that it’s okay.”
“My skin has made me sad many nights but I do not give up on myself. I know this is not me and my body has been looking for help,” she said.
Palmer plans to figure out how to treat her PCOS, and in turn, her acne. But she added that she’s not going to hide her skin anymore.
“The least harmful thing PCOS can bring is acne. To all the people struggling with this please know you’re not alone and that you are still so f—ing fine! MY ACNE AINT NEVER STOPPED ME. But we don’t have accept this. Now I can really help KEKE! And I love her so it’s ON,” she said.
“Pray for me on this journey and I will pray for you too. I’m not afraid to show myself to the world and you shouldn’t be either.”

Florida mom dies after teens feuding with her son run her over
A Florida mom who was intentionally run over by a group of teens feuding with her son over a “romantic entanglement” has died, authorities said.
Suzette Penton, a Polk City librarian, succumbed to her injuries last week after she was mowed down by a dark van at her house on Nov. 9, news station WFLA reported.
“I think everybody is still in shell shock,” said Polk City city manager Patricia Jackson. “We’re heartbroken. We’re just here to do whatever we can to help them.”
The group had shown up at the house wanting to fight Penton’s son over a “romantic entanglement,” according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Elijah Stansell, 18, was behind the wheel and was joined by Raven Sutton, 16, Kimberly Stone, 15, and Hannah Eubank, 14, news station WFTV reported.
Stansell is dating Stone, the ex-girlfriend of Penton’s son, the outlet reported. His name has not been released.
“This was an ongoing dispute between a group of kids, via social media, texting,” sheriff’s spokeswoman Carrie Horstman told WFLA.
“I think there was some verbal altercations at school. It has never risen to the level of physical violence.”
When the teens started attacking Penton’s son, his mom went outside to confront them and take pictures of their van, authorities said.
“They purposely and intentionally ran her over and critically injured her,” Horstman said.
“They had ample opportunity and space to get out of that area as she stood there in the street to take pictures of them to give to law enforcement. Instead, they ran her down in the road.”
The four teens were charged with attempted murder, but upgraded charges are pending, authorities said.
Penton was brought to the hospital with a traumatic brain injury and several broken bones, but doctors ultimately were unable to save her, the outlet reported.
She was remembered in the wake of her death as a “Mama Bear,” always protective of her kids, WFLA reported.
“I can understand her putting herself in harm’s way to protect her children,” Jackson said.
