Woman’s body found in trunk of car after it crashes during police chase
The body of a 28-year-old woman was found in the trunk of a car after it crashed during a police chase in Texas, authorities said.
Troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety discovered the remains of Briana Teirra Johnson on Saturday while searching a white Honda they’d been pursuing, local ABC affiliate KTRK-TV reported.
Cops first spotted the vehicle speeding around 7:45 a.m. and pulled it over in Beaumont, about 85 miles east of Houston.
But the driver, Victor Campbell Jr., allegedly zoomed off, leading the troopers on a chase that ended when he crashed near the parking lot of a church thrift shop.
Surveillance video from Johnson’s house in Houston allegedly showed Campbell dragging her out just before 5 a.m. and loading her body into the car, the report said.
Sources told the outlet that Campbell occasionally stayed at Johnson’s house, though it’s unclear what their relationship was.
Campbell — who’s previously been charged with family violence — was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries following the crash, and later booked into Jefferson County jail.
The 35-year-old now faces charges for felony evading arrest, driving while intoxicated, tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse. Additional charges may be added, police said.
Authorities have not yet released Johnson’s official cause of death, pending an autopsy.
Friends described the Texas Southern University graduate as having a good sense of humor and a love of makeup that she shared on her YouTube channel.
“She was happy,” pal Cierra Kenner told the station. “She always kept me laughing.”
