Star Hong Kong Instagram model who flaunted her wealth online is tied up at knifepoint, robbed of almost $500,000
A prominent Hong Kong social media influencer paid a terrifying price for flaunting her lavish possessions online after she and her baby son were tied up at knifepoint and robbed of more than $450,000 in goods, The Sun reports.
The 25-year-old influencer, So Mei-yan, reported that three men burst into her home in Kong Kong brandishing knives on Tuesday night while she and her son were sleeping. They tied up her and her six-month-old baby boy as well as his 45-year-old nanny and then robbed her blind.
The bandits ran off with nearly a half million dollars in valuables.
In an interview with a Chinese media outlet, the Hong Kong influencer who was so spectacularly robbed said she was “woken up by noise in the living room,” and that “when I went out of my bedroom to check, three men were already inside my flat.”
Her version of events was backed up by police who in a statement said: “As the doorbell rang, the maid opened the door and three men rushed into the unit.”
As for the weapons the robbers were carrying when they busted into the influencer’s home in Hong Kong, local cops said they either had a “fruit knife or a wooden rod” in hand.
Mei-yan reported that one of the masked men began aggressively rubbing her tiny son’s forehead.
The Hong Kong influencer begged the robber to stop and implored him to take whatever possessions of hers he wanted, but to spare her innocent little boy, the South China Morning Post reports.
“I never beat my son,” Mei-yan later told the press, “but [the robbers] dared beat him.”
So said she and her helper were tied up using adhesive tape, and the thieves then forced their victims into the baby’s bedroom, where one stood guard, while the other two searched the flat.
“One of them returned and pulled my hair asking where I put my money,” the influencer reported of her terrifying encounter with the robbers.
When Mei-yan told the robbers that she didn’t have any cash in her Hong Kong apartment, one of the robbers punched her in the face.
Mei-yan is a powerful influencer in the cosmetics realm and has a habit of exuberantly flaunting her wealth, lifestyle and possessions on social media.
Yahoo! News reports that in addition to displaying luxury watches and handbags in her posts, she is also fond of displaying vulgar quantities of cash.
“Ten handbags, seven watches, a laptop computer, and two mobile phones were stolen in the incident,” police said in a statement. “The haul is worth about HK$3.6 million.”
The robbers put all the luxury loot into a suitcase and then fled the Hong Kong influencer’s apartment.
The Standard reports that Mei-yan tore into her tormentors in the aftermath of the Hong Kong influencer’s robbery, saying, “The three men are so useless that they can only rob women and kids. They even beat a six-month-old baby boy, how shameless are they?”
She also excoriated her building’s management company for letting the criminals in the building in the first place.
“I’ve told the security guards 10 million times not to let anyone in without my permission,” she fumed. “But they still allowed these three weird men in caps and masks to go upstairs.”
So managed to untie herself and sought help from a security guard to call the police.
