Knife-wielding man punches elderly Trump supporter at MAGA rally
A knife-wielding California man allegedly punched a female Donald Trump supporter at a “Make America Great Again” rally before a retired cop pulled a gun and subdued him.
The heated clash unfolded Wednesday when 33-year-old counter-protester, Alvin Shaw, confronted demonstrators on a street in Aliso Viejo, near Los Angeles, with a curse-filled rant, KTLA reported.
He allegedly put his cigar out on 84-year-old Donna Snow’s Trump sign and blew smoke in her face, cops and witnesses told the station.
“I said don’t do that. And he took his hand out from way back and whacked me right across my face and broke my earring off,” Snow said.
As Shaw flipped out, he allegedly hit two other women, ages 55 and 74, then pulled a pocket knife — causing the retired officer to spring to action and detain him, according to cops and footage.
Shaw’s knife was later recovered from a nearby bush, where witnesses reported seeing it thrown, said Sheriff’s Sgt. Dennis Breckner. He was charged with suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, elderly abuse and battery.
Roughly 30 people had gathered at the rally, which was winding down when Shaw approached them. One demonstrator, Cynthia Cantrelle-Westman, said she at first thought he had come to join the group.

Vermont grocery store worker fired after apprehending purse snatcher
This good Samaritan stopped a thief from stealing a woman’s purse, and his reward was losing his job.
A Vermont grocery store worker nabbed a purse snatcher — and was fired for his efforts.
Amir Shedyak, 20, who worked at the Hannaford supermarket in his hometown of Essex for four years, and was even an employee of the month, was canned after a heroic act in August.
As he was starting his shift, a man approached him and told him a woman had just been robbed.
“And he was like — an old lady’s purse just got stolen,” Shedyak, who is also a volunteer fireman, told local CBS station WCAX3. “I look to my right and I see a gentleman running across the parking lot and he had the purse in his hand.”
Shedyak grabbed the suspect from behind and held him down before calling the police. The suspect got away, but Shedyak was able to return the purse.
“She was trying to offer me money. ‘I don’t want your money, just wanted to help you out, do what’s right,’” he told the station .
Police confirmed that the man Shedyak stopped, Adrian Moore, 29, was found and charged with larceny.
Shortly after the incident, Shadyak was fired.
“We do not comment on personnel matters,” Hannaford said in a statement to the TV station.
“It’s not like I was going to do this to be some hero. I was like, ‘Hey, an old lady’s purse just got stolen, I want to do something about it,’” Shedyak said.
Local attorney Pietro Lynn said Shedyak was likely fired so the store wouldn’t be sued.
“It is not uncommon at all for employers to discourage employees from laying hands on customers,” Lynn told WCAX3. “There are many cases in Vermont where employers are held responsible for the wrongful acts of their employees,” Lynn said.
Shedyak – who was quickly hired by another company, said, “Why should it make a difference that, hey, I’m clocked in now — he’s in trouble. If I wasn’t clocked in — oh, you did a good job.”

MSNBC commentator drinks wine on camera while discussing Ruth Bader Ginsburg
An MSNBC commentator knocked back a glass of wine on air while discussing the fate of the Supreme Court in light of Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s death Friday.
Writer Rebecca Traister could be seen taking a sip of red vino from her glass as she was video-interviewed by host Chris Hayes about the future of the bench.
“Yes, it was wine. I got the news while at dinner with my family, got the call to be on Chris’s show soon after, and without thinking about it, brought my beverage with me,” Traister told The Post.
Twitter users lapped it up.
“We are all @rtraister chugging wine on @MSNBC with @chrislhayes tonight,” wrote Matt Wilstein, of the Daily Beast.
“Whoever this lady is drinking wine live on MSNBC… I feel you,” wrote another Twitter user, tacking on laughing and crying face emoji.
Traister embraced the attention, retweeting the clip while wishing everyone a happy Rosh Hashanah.
“L’shana tova. May her memory be a blessing,” she wrote. “And may this year bring the drive and determination to fight like fury because everything depends on our willingness to do so.”
Ginsburg died at age 87 due to complications of metastatic pancreatic cancer.

Florida dad defends fifth-grade son wearing Hooters mask to school
A Florida dad says there’s nothing wrong with his fifth-grade son wearing a Hooters-themed mask to school– after the principal said it was “offensive” and made the boy take it off.
“He told me it was deemed offensive,” Steve Golba told Fox 35 Orlando. “I told him we go there as a family. We eat their wings, we watch sports. I said we have chocolate cake! We go there all the time. It is not an offensive mask.”
Ian Golba, 11, has been wearing the mask, covered with the name of the restaurant, to Sunset Park Elementary in Windermere since school began in August.
But on Tuesday, a teacher confronted him about it, WESH reported.
“I wore it and she said it was not appropriate for school,” Ian told the outlet. “I asked her why, and she said, ‘If you really want to know why, go ask the principal.’”
Ian said he did just that.
“[The principal] told me to take it off three times and I asked him why,” the pre-teen said. “He said, ‘just take it off,’ so I took it off and I had to wear a different mask.”
The principal told Ian the mask was “inappropriate because it expresses a woman’s body,” he told Fox 35.
But the dad thinks otherwise.
“I’ve never viewed it as anything but a restaurant. Do we feel women’s bodies are offensive? I don’t know. I don’t. The Principal told me that it was inappropriate. I said I don’t understand why it’s inappropriate. There’s nothing wrong with that mask,” he told the outlet.
And he won’t stop taking his family to Hooters.
“We do like the chicken wings. They have the best chicken wings,” the father said,
A school district spokesperson could not comment to the station about Ian’s case, but said masks are covered in the dress section of the Student Code of Conduct.

Florida parents are getting high and exposing themselves during kids’ virtual classes
Florida moms and dads have been spotted smoking weed, drinking and walking around half-naked in the background of their kids’ online classes, frustrated teachers said at a school board meeting.
“Parents, please make sure that you have on proper clothing when you are walking behind your child’s computer because we’ve seen them in their drawers, their bras, and everything else,” Boca Raton Elementary teacher Edith Pride vented Wednesday, according to KATV.
She and other educators said they’ve seen everything from parents puffing giant joints to moms with exposed ankle monitors during virtual lessons, which began in the district two weeks ago.
“Parents, when you are helping your children at their computer, please do not appear with big joints in your hands and cigarettes,” Pride said. “Those joints be as big as cigars. Oh yeah, we’ve seen it all.”
Some parents at the meeting burst into laughter — but teachers called the risqué classroom cameos just one example of how chaotic the pandemic-fueled online teaching sessions can be.
“I had a father, no shirt drinking a beer at 11:45 in the morning,” another teacher, who asked not to be named, told the local news station. “I did have a parent who sat on the couch and we could see an ankle monitor on her leg.”
Other teachers said they feared that other students would be exposed to a hard-to-process level of street smarts by getting glimpses into the hard-partying homes.
“[Students] do see other things that they’ve probably never seen before, so I know that is a challenge,” another teacher said.
A spokesman for the school district reminded parents that all classes are recorded but didn’t comment further.

Law enforcement intercepts package of ricin mailed to Trump
The FBI and Secret Service are investigating a package containing the highly-toxic poison ricin that was mailed to President Trump last week, CNN is reporting.
The package was intercepted by law enforcement, the report said.
Two tests were done to confirm the presence of ricin in the package, law enforcement sources told the network.
It’s likely the package never even reached the White House.
All mail for the White House is sorted and screened at an offsite facility, the network noted.
The package appears to have been sent from Canada, an official told the New York Times.
In 2018, a former sailor was arrested in Utah for allegedly sending envelopes containing the unprocessed source of ricin — seeds from the castor plant — to Trump at the White House and also to the Pentagon.

Candace Owens accuses Amazon of damaging her new book: ‘This is unacceptable’ Employees allegedly smeared Vaseline on the books before mailing them
Amazon workers really left their mark on conservative pundit Candace Owens‘ new book — including in Vaseline, she claims.
The outspoken Owens took to Twitter to accuse the retail giant’s employees of damaging her tome, “Blackout.”
“Dear @amazon. About 1,000 people have written to let me know that your employees appear to be stomping on and in this case, smearing Vaseline on my books before mailing them. I know it must have pained you to ship out all 90,000 copies you had in stock— but this is unacceptable,” she wrote Saturday afternoon.
Owens included pictures of the book with what appeared to be smear marks on the cover.
She followed up with a call to her 2.6 million followers to snatch up the book.
“The pettiness will do nothing to thwart sales. Let’s try to get the next 100,000 that I plan to sell out of your warehouse, treated with a bit more respect by the looney lefties packing the product, please,” Owens tweeted

Michigan official calls cops over homeowner’s election-themed toilet display
A Michigan election official thinks a homeowner’s mail-in ballot joke is crap.
Ingham County Clerk Barb Byrum saw no humor in the display on a lawn in the town of Mason, Michigan, featuring a toilet with a sign next to it that said, “Place mail in ballots here!”
The homeowner, who was not identified by the Lansing State Journal, also has a sign nearby reading, “Recall Whitmer Now.com,” a reference to an effort to oust the Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, along with another sign supporting John James, a Republican running for the U.S. Senate.
But Byrum didn’t interpret the toilet display as political commentary. Noting many people are voting absentee for the first time this year because of the pandemic, she filed a police report about it.
Michigan law says illegally taking possession of an absentee ballot is a felony which could result in a $1,000 fine and up to 5 years behind bars. More than 2 million Michigan voters could cast absentee ballots this year after changes in election law.
“It’s solicitation of absentee ballots into a container,” Byrum said in a statement. “Our election integrity is not a game. I expect everyone to act appropriately, and this is unacceptable.”
Over 400 military, overseas ballots printed with wrong Trump running mate
The Democrat said she found it “more than a little ironic” that public records showed the person registered at the address voted absentee for the past three years.
She told the paper ballots have already gone out to local clerks, so it’s possible someone who is unfamiliar with the process could end up flushing their vote by depositing it in the toilet.
“This kind of behavior needs to be quashed immediately,” she said. “They are making a mockery of our elections. I’m not going to stand idly by and watch it happen.”
While President Trump’s campaign website encourages voters to request absentee ballots, he has spent months criticizing mail-in voting, which he believes is more prone to fraud.

Man sentenced after police find loaded gun in his buttocks during strip search
A Louisiana man chose the cheekiest of places when he needed to find a quick hiding spot for his gun.
Justin Savoie, 24, pleaded guilty Friday to weapons charges after police in the town of Golden Meadow — who were arresting him late last year on a separate matter — discovered he had stashed a loaded .25 caliber Titan pistol in his buttocks, The Smoking Gun reports.
Police had taken Savoie into custody on Dec. 28, 2019, after they responded to “suspicious activity” in a home he was occupying with a female acquaintance, the report said.
Cops said they discovered Savoie possessed a handgun, marijuana and drug paraphernalia during an initial search.
Multiple other firearms were discovered in his truck at the scene, the report said.
But as Savoie was being strip searched after his arrest, police reportedly found the additional surprise weapon “concealed in his rear end.”
The pistol is more than four inches long with a 2.5-inch barrel.
Savoie was sentenced to a five-year suspended prison sentence during a District Court appearance. He received three years probation and an order to serve 90 days in the Lafourche Parish jail, the outlet reported.
As part of the terms of his probation, he’s barred from owning or possessing firearms, visiting bars or lounges or indulging in excessive use of alcohol or illegal drugs.
