Woman stabbed boyfriend for looking at nude photos of her daughter
A Connecticut woman is facing charges for stabbing her boyfriend after he allegedly looked at nude photos of her young daughter, according to a report.
Trysh Brown, 31, was arraigned Monday on a charge of first-degree assault in Bridgeport, where police were sent to a Park Street residence at about 4 a.m. Saturday after getting calls about a man screaming for help while covered in blood, the Connecticut Post reports.
Responding cops found the man sitting on a sidewalk with multiple stab wounds. He was taken to Bridgeport Hospital, police said.
Officers who went to the man’s home were met by Brown, who was also covered in blood. She claimed she awoke and found her boyfriend looking at naked photos of her daughter on his cellphone, setting off a confrontation between the pair, police said.
Brown said her boyfriend started hitting her in the face when she asked him about the photos, according to police.
Brown then started stabbing her boyfriend with two kitchen knives, telling police she did so because “he is a big man,” according to the report.
Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Kevin Dunn initially sought a high bond for Brown during her arraignment Monday, the newspaper reports.
“She stabbed him eight to 10 times and he is in critical condition,” Dunn said Monday.
But Brown’s claim that she acted in self-defense was being investigated after new information was obtained in the case, Dunn said.
Messages seeking additional comment from Dunn and Bridgeport police were not immediately returned early Tuesday.
A judge set bond for Brown at $75,000. She’s due back in court on Oct. 1, the Connecticut Post reports.

Walmart launching new membership service to compete with Amazon Prime
NEW YORK (AP) — Walmart is launching a new membership service for shoppers this month that it hopes can compete with Amazon Prime.
Called Walmart+, it will cost $98 a year, or $12.95 a month, and give members same-day delivery on 160,000 items, a fuel discount at certain gas stations and a chance to check out at Walmart stores without having to wait at a register.
Walmart has a long way to go to catch up with Amazon Prime. Launched in 2005, Prime has more than 150 million members who pay $119 a year, or $12.99 a month, for faster shipping and other perks, such as discounts at Amazon’s Whole Foods supermarkets and access to its video streaming site.
Walmart’s online sales are growing rapidly, especially during the pandemic, when more people have turned to the company to order groceries online and pick them up at a store. But the world’s biggest retailer is still a distant second online to Amazon. Walmart is expected to take 6% of all online sales in the U.S. this year, compared to Amazon’s 38%, according to market research firm eMarketer.
Last week, Walmart emerged as a possible suitor for the U.S. business of TikTok, the fast-growing video app with more than 100 million users. Analysts have said the bid with tech company Microsoft could be a way for Walmart to grow its online shopping business and connect with millions of young shoppers.
As for Walmart+, members will still have to spend at least $35 online to qualify for free shipping. But delivery could be as quick as same day for groceries, toys and household items, such as toilet paper and soap.
Members will get a discount of up to 5 cents a gallon at Murphy gas stations or at the 2,000 Walmart locations that have gas pumps. The company said it’s working to add more gas-station chains to its list.
At its stores, members can unlock an app to scan items as they shop and pay without having to stop at a cashier.
The Bentonville, Arkansas-based company said Walmart+ will launch Sept. 15.

Petition launched to replace Confederate statue with Chadwick Boseman
Residents in Chadwick Boseman’s hometown of Anderson, South Carolina, launched a petition to replace a Confederate monument with a memorial to honor the actor.
Following the tragic death of the “Black Panther” star, the petition has since racked up thousands of signatures on Change.org.
“Mr. Boseman is without question an American treasure and his accolades go on and on. It is only fitting that his work is honored in the same place that birthed him,” DeAndre Weaver, the organizer of the petition wrote.
“He opened many doors for many young black people with his leading roles in movies such as Black Panther or Marshall,” writes Weaver.
The existing statue dedicated to the Confederate veterans of Anderson County was erected in 1902.
The statue, which depicts a soldier standing atop a platform, sits in front of courthouse and reads, “The world shall yet decide, in truth’s clear, far-off light, that the soldiers who wore the gray, and died with Lee, were in the right,” according to a state website.
The petition asks that the statue be moved to the Anderson County Museum.
“It is only natural that his hometown honors what he did. There is no need for political controversy in this decision,” says the petition.
“The old statue need not be destroyed; however, with the engravings on the base, it is beyond time for its retirement.”
Confederate statues in South Carolina are protected by a heritage act, and would require state authorization to remove.
Boseman died in his Los Angeles-area home at age 43 after a private, four-year battle with colon cancer.

Cardi B revealed that she really wanted Lizzo to appear in the infamous “WAP” video.
“I’m cool with Lizzo and everything. Like, we’ve been sending DMs to each other and all that. But she was on vacation and she wasn’t in town. I was like, ‘Oh my gosh,’ because I had a whole vision about how I want to see Lizzo and everything,” she told Hot 97.
“It was so important to me to include different women that are different races and come from different backgrounds, but are so powerful and influential.”

Gucci Mane named in wrongful death suit over club shooting
GREENVILLE, S.C. — Rappers Gucci Mane and Foogiano have been named in a wrongful death lawsuit filed on behalf of a 23-year-old woman who was fatally shot during a concert at a South Carolina nightclub.
The administrator for the estate of Mykala Bell filed the lawsuit in Greenville County last week, The Greenville News reported Monday.
The mother of two was standing near the stage when gunfire broke out in the early hours of July 5 at Lavish Lounge where Foogiano was performing, according to the lawsuit. Security guard Clarence Sterling Johnson, 51, was also killed and eight others were injured, authorities have said.
Police charged Jarquez Kezavion Cooper, 22, in the shooting and said it appeared to be gang-related.
The lawsuit alleged that Foogiano and attendees who came with him were not patted down before they entered the club and were allowed in with “deadly weapons.”
The lawsuit said Gucci Mane was “believed to be” a promoter associated with the performance, though it did not say whether he was present at the event.
It also named Cooper, as well as the club’s operating company, its owner and nearly a dozen other unspecified “owners, managers, operators, independent contractors, and/or security companies” accused of negligence for failing to provide adequate surveillance and security, and “permitting criminal activity,” among other allegations.
The Greenville News said requests for comment from representatives for Gucci Mane and Foogiano were not immediately returned.

Deputies kill Black man who dropped a gun
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Two deputies fatally shot a black man who scuffled with them after they tried to stop him for riding a bicycle in an unlawful manner, the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department said. A crowd gathered and marched to the sheriff’s station after the Monday afternoon shooting, demanding justice.
Sheriff’s Lt. Brandon Dean said two deputies from the South Los Angeles station were driving when the saw a man riding his bicycle in violation of vehicle codes, according to the Los Angeles Times. It was not known which codes the man allegedly broke, Dean said.
When deputies tried to stop the man, he dropped his bike and ran, with deputies in pursuit, Dean said. Deputies again tried to make contact with the man, and Dean said he punched a deputy in the face. The man then dropped a bundle of clothes he’d been carrying and they spotted a black handgun in the bundle, at which point both deputies opened fire, Dean said.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say the handgun was recovered and no deputies were injured.
Family members at the scene identified the dead man as Dijon Kizzee, 29, CBS-Los Angeles reported.
Protesters gathered demanding answers, and more than 100 people marched to a sheriff’s station on Imperial Highway. Some said they didn’t think the shooting was justified while others chanted, “Say his name” and “No justice, no peace” the Times reported.
Arlander Givens, 68, lives in the neighborhood. He questioned why deputies fired at a man who, according to the sheriff’s official, wasn’t holding a weapon.
“If he reached down to grab it, that’s different,” Givens told the Times. “But if it’s on the ground, why shoot? That means he was unarmed.”
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department tweeted in a statement that multiple independent investigations began at the scene, as is customary with deputy-involved shootings.

This story has been corrected. The dead man’s reported surname is Kizzee, not Kizee.
