Man drowns in river while celebrating engagement with fiancée
A young groom-to-be tragically drowned in a river in Brazil while celebrating the engagement with his new fiancée and their friends on Monday, according to reports.
Joao Guilherme Torres Fadini, 24, died trying to swim across the Sorocaba River in Sao Paulo just minutes after posing for photos with his bride-to-be Larissa Campos, 25, The Sun reported, citing G1 News.
One of the heartbreaking pictures shows the beaming couple sharing a kiss before the Fadini jumped in the water with his pals.
“After the kiss, he took off his shirt and went into the water together with our friends,” Campos told G1 News. “He asked me to wait for him and said he loved me.”
Campos said the whole group tried to make it to the other side of the river but everyone except for her fiancé, described as a good swimmer, and her brother-in-law gave up.
Moments later, Fadini disappeared, kicking off a frantic search by emergency workers.
“Almost an hour and a half after the firemen arrived, the divers found his body,” Campos recalled. His death has left her devastated.
“All I think and dream about is him. Now all I have left are memories of everything we lived and dreamed of experiencing together,” Campos said.
“We have always been very intensely in love. We loved life together.”
