‘Saved by the Bell’ reboot casts transgender actress Josie Totah
“Saved by the Bell” has found its star.
Josie Totah has been cast in the lead role for the reboot of the hit sitcom, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
She will play Lexi, the most popular girl at Bayside High.Totah, who rose to fame on the Mindy Kaling-produced show “Champions,” came out as transgender in a 2018 essay for Time magazine.
“I was afraid I wouldn’t be accepted, that I would be embarrassed, that the fans who knew me from the time when I acted in a Disney show would be confused,” she wrote.
“But I realized over the past few years that hiding my true self is not healthy. I know now, more than ever, that I’m finally ready to take this step toward becoming myself. I’m ready to be free.”
“Saved by the Bell” ran for four seasons from 1989 to 1993 on NBC.
The show documented the travails of a gang of friends at Bayside High School and is still popular in syndication.

Rob Kardashian Seeks Primary Custody of Dream, Claims Blac Chyna ‘Spends $600 on Alcohol’ Daily: Report
Rob Kardashian allegedly claimed in a sealed court filing that Blac Chyna is “drunk all the time”
Rob Kardashian has reportedly filed for primary custody of his 3-year-old daughter Dream, claiming in a sealed court filing that his ex Blac Chyna is “out of control.”
Rob, 32, allegedly claims in the court filing obtained by TMZ that Chyna, née Angela Renée White, is constantly hosting parties at her home while Dream is present. TMZ also reports he alleges that Chyna “snorts cocaine,” is always drunk and that she even spends “$600 on alcohol” daily.
PEOPLE had not independently reviewed the alleged court filings and representatives for Rob and Chyna dod not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
According to the outlet, Rob accuses Chyna of being violent, citing one occasion where Chyna, 31, allegedly threw “sharp objects” at her hairdresser.
Rob also claims that Chyna’s alleged partying ways have affected Dream’s behavior as the child now allegedly uses foul language and is violent with other children, the website reports. Rob’s sister Khloé Kardashian also reportedly made a statement in the filing, claiming that Dream has been “decidedly more aggressive” lately and says she doesn’t want to go home to Chyna, TMZ reported.
Rob is seeking to have Chyna’s parenting time reduced to just weekends with a nanny present, according to the filing obtained by TMZ.
Rob’s filing comes a few months after Chyna revealed that she and the reality star were on good terms and were working together to coparent Dream.
“I just feel like having a good relationship with the other parent and coparenting is a healthy type of thing,” she told Entertainment Tonight. “It’s something that a lot of people need to practice.”
Rob tweeted in February 2019 that the dust had settled, and the two were on good terms.
“Angela and I are both actively co-parenting and there are no pending or active custody cases,” he wrote.
The former couple agreed to joint custody in September 2017 following a whirlwind romance and failed engagement that culminated with both alleging abuse in separate lawsuits.
In July 2017, Chyna accused the reality star of violating California’s revenge porn laws by posting graphic and expletive-ridden content about her — including three naked photos — while accusing her of drug/alcohol abuse and infidelity. Chyna also claimed in court documents obtained by PEOPLE that he allegedly hit her and threatened to kill himself multiple times.
At the time, a judge later granted her a set of restraining orders against him, and that lawsuit has not yet been settled. Meanwhile, Rob previously denied the allegations of verbal and physical abuse made by Chyna and claimed that Chyna “did not suffer any injury or harm as a result of any conduct” by him in court documents.
However, in June, tension began brewing between the exes after Chyna called out Kardashian from preventing Dream from appearing on her show The Real Blac Chyna.
Chyna shared a lengthy statement on social media after TMZ reported that Rob and his lawyer Marty Singer told her in a letter that Dream could not appear on The Real Blac Chyna without Ron’s consent.
“As Executive Producer of my show, It is very unfortunate that Rob could not simply have an adult conversation with me ‘the mother of his child,’ Dream Kardashian appearing on my show ‘The Real Blac Chyna,’” wrote Chyna, who also shares 6-year-old son King Cairo with ex Tyga.
“Had Rob contacted me directly rather than through his attorney Marty Singer, Rob would have learned about Dream participation in the show,” she continued, adding that she “would never allow” Dream to be “subjected to long hours on the set.”

California is suing a Silicon Valley billionaire for blocking public access to a beach
For nearly a century, people flocked to Martin’s Beach, a picturesque stretch of sand just south of Half Moon Bay in the San Francisco Bay Area, to swim, surf and dig their toes into the sand.
Then in 2008, Silicon Valley billionaire Vinod Khosla, through two limited liability companies, bought two large pieces of land next to the popular beach, which happened to contain the only viable public path to the shore. For more than a decade, Khosla has fought numerous legal battles to keep the public off the beach — and has shown no signs of giving in.
Now the state of California is the latest player to take on the venture capitalist, in a challenge that could set a precedent for whether the public is entitled to have access to the state’s coastline.
The California State Lands Commission and the California Coastal Commission announced Monday the state has filed a lawsuit to restore full public access to Martin’s Beach.
“This case goes to the heart of California’s public access mandate,” California Coastal Commission Chair Steve Padilla said in a statement. “We cannot allow this to be chipped away each time someone purchases beachfront property — it’s a dangerous precedent for the future of public access in California.”
State argues beaches belong to the public
California argues in the lawsuit that because the public has used Martin’s Beach since at least the early 1900s, they have the right to access it under a doctrine called implied dedication. The state’s constitution mandates that the public be allowed to access all coastal beaches below the mean high tide line. The California Coastal Act of 1976 builds on this, requiring that the state “maximize public access” to coastal areas while staying consistent with the “constitutionally protected rights of private property owners.
“The lawsuit alleges that Khosla closed the gate to Martin’s Beach and has largely blocked public access to it, arguing that unless ordered otherwise by a court, he will “continue to deny, impair and obstruct the public’s right to use” the beach.
Dori Yob Kilmer, an attorney for Khosla, said in a statement to CNN that the property is private and the state’s claims “have been extensively litigated and repeatedly rejected by the courts” in a previous lawsuit.”Since the property was purchased by our client, the state, and small activist groups, have endeavored to seize our client’s private property without compensation,” Kilmer wrote.”While such tactics are commonplace in communist systems, they have never been tolerated in the American system where the US Constitution precludes the government from simply taking private property and giving it to the public.”
Other groups have fought for public access
Khosla, who co-founded the technology company Sun Microsystems, bought the property encompassing Martin’s Beach from a local family who had owned it since the early 1900s. The previous owners charged a fee to park at the beach, but the public was otherwise able to access the coastline for free.Khosla sued San Mateo County in 2009 through his LLC companies after it warned that they would need to continue providing public access to the beach, but a judge ultimately ruled in favor of the county.
Since Khosla’s property managers eventually closed the gate and cut off access to the beach, a number of organizations have filed lawsuits challenging the move. In 2018, the US Supreme Court declined to take up Khosla’s appeal to keep Martin’s Beach to himself. Khosla had contested a ruling by a California appeals court, which had sided with the non-profit group Surfrider Foundation in arguing that he needed a permit from the California Coastal Commission to restrict public access to the beach. But just two months ago, an appeals court in San Mateo County sided with Khosla on a legal challenge brought on by a group called Friends of Martins Beach, ruling that there was not enough evidence to show that the property’s previous owners had dedicated the beach for the public’s use.

Congressman shares fake image of Obama with Iranian president
A Republican congressman on Monday posted a fake photo of former President Barack Obama shaking hands with the Iranian president and later acknowledged that the image was falsified.
“The world is a better place without these guys in power,” Arizona Rep. Paul Gosar said in his caption of the doctored photo.
Obama, who left office in 2017, never met with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, who is still in power. The image was photoshopped from Obama’s 2011 meeting with former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Democratic Rep. Sean Casten of Illinois called Gosar’s post “irresponsible.”
“The world would be a better place if elected officials didn’t share photoshopped images and take pride in being ignorant,” Casten said on Twitter.
Gosar later defended himself, saying that it was not implied that the photo wasn’t altered.
“To the dim witted reporters…no one said this wasn’t photoshopped. No one said the president of Iran was dead. No one said Obama met with Rouhani in person,” Gosar said on Twitter.
He added, “Obama coddled, appeased, nurtured and protected the worlds No. 1 sponsor of terror. The world is better without Obama as president. The world will be better off without Rouhani.”
The tweet comes amid heightened tensions with Iran after President Donald Trump ordered a drone strike killing Iranian commander Qasem Soleimani. The same fake image was included in a super PAC campaign ad touting Wisconsin GOP Sen. Ron Johnson’s opposition to the Iran nuclear deal, according to a 2015 Buzzfeed report.
Gosar has a history of controversial remarks and actions. In 2017, he promoted the conspiracy theory that the white supremacists’ rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, was a left-wing plot financed by Democratic megadonor George Soros.
And CNN reported that Gosar attended an hours-long dinner in London in 2018 with an extremist Belgian politician who is known for his anti-Muslim views and has a history of racist comments.

A Michigan man named Kevin Bacon was mutilated and killed by a man he met on the LGBTQ dating app Grindr, reports said.

‘RHOA’ Star Eva Marcille’s Ex Kevin McCall Mocks Her On Instagram After Losing Custody Battle
“Real Housewives of Atlanta” star Eva Marcille’s ex Kevin McCall is trashing the reality star on social media, weeks after being shut down in his attempt to get custody of their daughter.
Over the weekend, Kevin McCall was active on his Instagram and decided to mock the mother of his child. He was posting video of him in the studio writing and rapping. He then decided to write, “What do u get when u cross the term “police” with let’s say, a random WORD like – let’s say “escort” just randomly.”
He continued, “So what do u get when u cross the word “Police” and “Escort”. Answer : PIG-FORD (Yeah I just for idea from the swipe left freestyle just for the F of it. You smart dummy.”
The reality star’s birth name is Eva Pigford.
Kevin has continued to act erratically in the weeks since losing his custody lawsuit against Eva. He sued demanding more custody with their daughter Marley Rae. Eva objected saying he was dangerous and unfit to be around their kid.
Marcille argued the custody dispute should be heard in California, where it was originally filed. She has had full custody of Marley Rae for years.
The judge sided with Eva after Kevin failed to show up to court. He had been arrested at a previous custody hearing after getting into an altercation with police officers. He was hit with a felony charge and is facing 5 years in jail. The judge dismissed the lawsuit ordering it to be heard in California not Georgia.
Since being shut down, Kevin started posting tons of throwbacks of Eva, despite her accusing him of domestic abuse during their relationship.
Kevin recently posted on social media threatening Eva’s “Dish Nation” costar Rickey Smiley. Kevin posted a screenshot of messages he sent to Rickey on Instagram. He captioned the screenshot, “I don’t just want the smoke …I need that.’
The direct messages read, “Dog u seriously havedt (SIC) seen ONE single message about me?” He continued, “Dawg you insulting my family and ignoring my calls. I’m offended bruh. Totally offended.”
Kevin continued, “What chapter is this cat ni—a from I’m this close to saying fu-c his whole yard they all cat. And I want the smoke. I dare one of yal to say something to me! Ni—az gone respect what I did for this organization and they gon respect my legacy and FAMILY or we can into some real Bangin.”
Eva has remained unbothered amid Kevin’s antics, recently buying herself a new $780k home.

Dave Chappelle still thinks trans people are funny, Greta Thunberg not so much
Dave Chappelle kicked off his first weekend of the new year with a rare, riotous, nearly three-hour standup set at the Chapel in San Francisco, a city to which he admittedly owes a great deal.
The controversial comic famously logged hundreds of hours at the Punch Line comedy club after his departure from “Chappelle’s Show” in 2006, experiencing virtually every major milestone of the second act of his career through the unique lens of the city.
As brazen and unapologetic as ever, Chappelle was in rare form Saturday, Jan. 4, unconfined by tour schedules and standup specials, as evidenced by the two bottles of top-shelf Tequila, three packs of American Spirit cigarettes and one hefty joint — which he freely passed around to front row audience members — onstage throughout his extended act. The Ohio resident also covered a spectrum of topics, from God to Greta Thunberg.
Here’s the summation: Chappelle firmly believes in a perfect, all-knowing God, but not so much in a confident, climate-savvy teenager. Let’s just say the 17-year-old activist irks him, to put it mildly, rather than going into detail about Chappelle’s joke involving R. Kelly and Time magazine’s 2019 Person of the Year.
Even for a veteran comic like Chappelle, not every joke lands, and, given his uncompromising brand of humor, certain bits may come across as shockingly tone-deaf to certain Bay Area audience members. Such as Chappelle’s long-gestating, polarizing transgender jokes, which he spent another 30 minutes exploring without covering any new ground. Chappelle remains at an impasse on the issue — a stubborn, willful disconnect. He still doesn’t understand the concept of people shifting gender. He still thinks the trans experience is funny.
Despite his inability to understand something so fundamental, you get the sense that Chappelle has a profound respect for the trans community and the adversity they face. There’s a paradox in there somewhere.
Aside from a few gay slurs and customary racist jokes to supplement his trans material, Chappelle’s PC-averse material was outweighed by his thoughtful meditations on politics, pop culture, his career, personal life and existential musings.
The Democrat — although, unsurprisingly, Chappelle admits his popularity has risen among conservatives, with a MAGA audience member at a recent show demanding he run for president — said he might vote for Bernie Sanders if his face didn’t remind him of his Jewish accountant after he learned that Chappelle was broke in 2006.
Instead, Chappelle’s vote is with underdog Andrew Yang. Although he hasn’t publicly endorsed the candidate, Chappelle is performing at a benefit for him in the near future. The comedian joked that his past Chinese bits will come back to haunt him.
The more freely the Tequila flowed, the more Chappelle welcomed the audience’s questions. When asked whether he’d return to “Chappelle’s Show” if Netflix offered him the money, he replied with a blunt “No.” He went on to explain that, with Charlie Murphy dead and how things were left with Comedy Central, which aired the series, it wouldn’t be the same. It’s also a matter of principle, as Netflix isn’t the network that owes him money.
“I’m the type of person who doesn’t look back,” Chappelle said.
Perhaps that’s his defining characteristic: He doesn’t dwell on the past, lives in the present and remains hopeful of the future. He listed Ali Wong, Michelle Wolf and Tiffany Haddish as a few of his favorite female comedians, and, although “she’s great,” Mo’Nique as one of his least favorite due to her call for a Netflix boycott.
Chappelle also listed three of his all-time favorite shows in order from third to first: a recent Louis C.K. set in his home state, a Martin Lawrence set when he was 16 and a set in L.A. during the 1990s by a comic with cerebral palsy whose involuntary muscle movements disappeared as he brought the house down.
In between flirting with female audience members and theorizing about a gay attendee’s master plan to seduce his straight friend after the show, moments of profundity shined through, during which Chappelle got honest with himself and audience members about his own master plan: to live and let live. To forgive, appreciate and enjoy the intimate moments like the ones on Saturday night.
“It’s times like these that I know we’re all going to be all right,” he said.
