Florida Family Fights Back Against Porch Pirates With Dirty Diaper-Filled Packages
A family in Tampa, Florida, is teaching porch pirates a lesson they probably didn’t expect to get by leaving packages filled with dirty diapers outside their home.
It all started when the Saleep family say they noticed packages missing, including food and one of the baby’s gifts, Tampa Bay television station WFTS reported Wednesday.
“I wanted them to get a taste of their own medicine,” Sharly Saleep told the station.
So, the family took matters into their own hands.
First, they installed a surveillance camera to see if the packages were actually delivered.
“It was really disgusting, but I figured, you know, if they take it they deserve it,” said Jacky Saleep.
Then, they put out a decoy package to see if porch pirates were at work. But what they say they put inside the decoy package, probably wasn’t anything a package thief might expect to find — dirty diapers from Nora, their 9-month-old baby.
“It was kind of like a team effort, like he sealed it up, made it look less suspicious, made it look like something you’d want to take, and she provided the diapers,” said Jacky Saleep.
She said they filled the package with three-day-old dirty diapers and in about two hours, they believe someone took it. They found surveillance video showing someone run up to the front door, and quickly run away.
The family filed a report with Tampa police.
“Whoever these porch pirates were, they fell for it,” said Tampa Police Department Officer Sarah Michelson.
While the holiday season is typically expected to see an increase in package thefts, Michelson said they’re down across Tampa this year.
There were 25 package thefts in November 2018 compared to 10 in November 2019, according to police.
“Residents are a lot more aware of what’s going on, our officers are definitely out there and visible,” Michelson said.
The Saleeps told the station they’re more aware, too. Out of safety concerns, they’ve installed additional surveillance cameras.
But in a twist of events, they said they later discovered their original missing packages were delivered to the wrong address.
They plan to tell Nora about this when she’s older.
“Just tell her it’s not right to take other people’s things and just be careful, because it might not be what you’re expecting when you open it up,” said Jacky Saleep.
They may not be done teaching this lesson just yet, though.
“We’re gonna have an upgrade, like cat litter now,” Sharly Saleep said.

Texas father dies in ‘freak accident’ while hanging up Christmas lights
TEXAS — A Texas father died after falling from a rooftop while stringing Christmas lights.
Felipe Gallegos, 39, operated a window cleaning business with his wife, Alisha Flick. During the holidays, he hangs Christmas lights for his clients, which is what he was doing on Saturday when he fell, according to CNN affiliate KTVT .
Flick told KTVT that her husband had years of experience and called the fall a “freak accident.” She didn’t see what happened when he fell. She heard a loud noise and, when she went outside, found him lying on the concrete.
Gallegos was rushed into emergency surgery, but he died from head trauma.
A friend of the family set up a GoFundMe page for the family , as Gallegos was the main provider for Alisha and their teenage son. The goal was set for $20,000 but in just a few days the page has raised more than $50,000 for the family.
On average, there are 200 decorating-related injuries each day during the holiday season, according to data from the Consumer Product Safety Commission . Most incidents are falls, the CPSC states.

Police Officer Under Investigation After Footage Said to Show Him Groping Dead Woman
A Los Angeles police officer has been placed under investigation, a police spokesman said Wednesday.
Body camera footage was said to show him groping a deceased woman’s breasts, according to a person familiar with the case.
The unidentified male officer was not working while the case was under investigation, Josh Rubenstein, the department spokesman, said.
The officer had been assigned to the Central Division and was responding to an overdose call, he said. Rubenstein declined to provide specific information about the incident, including when it occurred, because it is part of a personnel investigation.
Supervisors throughout the jurisdiction conduct random reviews of video on a monthly basis, Rubenstein said.
All uniformed officers assigned to patrol the Los Angeles area have cameras, he said, and roughly 7,000 cameras are issued.
“If this allegation is true, then the behavior exhibited by this officer is not only wrong, but extremely disturbing, and does not align with the values we, as police officers, hold dear and these values include respect and reverence for the deceased,” the board of directors for the Los Angeles Police Protective League, the police officers’ union, said in a statement on Wednesday. “This behavior has no place in law enforcement.”
Police departments around the country have increasingly used body cameras after several high-profile shootings. In 2015, about 95% of large police departments started using body cameras or said they would use them in the future, a national survey said.
A 2017 study of more than 2,000 Washington, D.C. officers conducted over 18 months showed officers with body cameras used force and prompted civilian complaints at nearly the same rate as officers without the equipment.
A Baltimore police officer was suspended and charges against a man were dropped after a body-camera recording appeared to show an officer planting a bag of drugs at the scene of an arrest in January 2017. In that case, the camera retained recordings beginning 30 seconds before it was activated.
In November 2018, The New York Times published body-camera recordings of an arrest in Staten Island that raised questions regarding police behavior. In this case, lawyers for the defendant claimed the footage contained possible proof that an officer planted a marijuana cigarette. The officer and the Police Department denied any wrongdoing.

The Emotional Moment the Obamas Dropped Off 18-Year-Old Sasha at College: ‘We Wanted to Make It Feel Normal’
“It was of course a little emotional to drop Sasha off at college,” Mrs. Obama tells PEOPLE, admitting “the tough part” has been “missing our girls”
Except for their last name and world-famous faces, Barack and Michelle Obama were just like so many other parents earlier this year when, as late summer began crisping into fall, they sent off their youngest to school.
“Time just goes so fast. But like so many experiences in the last 10 years, we wanted to make it feel as normal as possible, given our family’s circumstances,” the former first lady tells PEOPLE in this week’s issue, reflecting on 18-year-old daughter Sasha Obama‘s next chapter.
“It was of course a little emotional to drop Sasha off at college,” says Mrs. Obama, admitting “the tough part” has been “missing our girls.”
“It’s an adjustment to see each other for a weekend here, a holiday break there, but the moments we do spend together feel extra special because of it,” she says.
And when Sasha is in her college dorm (the Obamas have asked to keep private where she is enrolled) she will still be surrounded by the familiarity of family.
“We were there, just like most parents, helping her unpack and make her dorm room feel like home,” Mrs. Obama says.
“But by and large, we let her take care of herself,” she continues. “As a parent, one of the most important things we can give our children is the freedom to find their own way in the world.”
Echoing what she wrote for PEOPLE in a special Mother’s Day essay earlier this year, Mrs. Obama says, “I first learned this truth from my own mother, who made sure my brother and I had plenty of space to speak our minds, make mistakes, and follow our passions, wherever they might lead. I try to do the same with Sasha and Malia, honoring the unique flame each of them has inside.”
“They are their own people, and that’s what I love about them,” Mrs. Obama says. “And they’ve got to have room to breathe and explore.”
Since the Obamas left the White House in 2017, the former president and first lady have been busy with their eponymous foundation, where she focuses efforts on increasing girls’ access to education worldwide, among other issues — not to mention a record-smashing memoir, Becoming, and sold-out book tour. (President Obama is busy writing his own memoir, which could come out next year, and the two are working with Netflix.)
Older daughter Malia Obama, 21, is in her third year at Harvard University, which both of her parents attended.
“Barack and I try to make sure that our daughters know that there’s no limit to what they can be or what they can achieve,” Mrs. Obama tells PEOPLE. “They don’t learn that if their parents treat them like delicate little ornaments, set aside so they won’t break. Girls need to have the chance to create and explore and skin their knees from time to time, too.”
Last year, in a PEOPLE cover story upon the release of Becoming, Mrs. Obama looked back at her family’s eight years in the White House and the spotlight in which Malia and Sasha literally grew up.
“They are the most recognized teenagers in the world, trying to be out in the world like regular kids,” she said then. “And that’s hard when you’re a child, and every day people are watching you, and you know that. There’s no time to just be … to blend in and have fun and make mistakes or smoke your first cigarette or have your first kiss or have a boyfriend.”
“I try to remind them that even the toughest parts of this have value,” Mrs. Obama said. “They’ve grown up with being able to maneuver it with grace.”
She told PEOPLE then she was far from broken up about having an empty nest with President Obama.
“Unlike my parents, who dropped me off at college and just had a phone call, I text with my kids. I can text Malia [at Harvard] right this second and know what she’s thinking. I feel like she’s off on her next adventure, so I’m excited for her,” she said. “I don’t need my children to make me happy. I had them so that they’d be happy.”
Speaking with PEOPLE for this week’s issue, in which she was named one of four People of the Year, she talks about not what she’s losing, with her daughters moving out, but what they are gaining.
“The most gratifying part of it all has been watching the girls enter into their next phase of independence,” Mrs. Obama says. “Our role as parents is to raise self-sufficient, thoughtful, and compassionate individuals, and in order for them to fully embrace their own journeys, we have to be willing to let them go, so that they can grow on their own. That’s the only way they can become more.”

Kylie Jenner’s 93-Year-Old Grandma Just Revealed Why Kylie & Travis Scott Split
Kylie Jenner‘s grandmother may have just answered a lot of questions. The October split that saw the 22-year-old makeup mogul and her rapper boyfriend part ways was a shock one- while Kylie confirmed that her relationship with Travis Scott had ended, she didn’t say why.
Esther Jenner (Caitlyn Jenner’s 93-year-old mom) has spoken to The Sun with her thoughts, revealing why the Kylie Cosmetics CEO called it quits with her baby daddy. Well, it’s Esther’s opinion, anyway.
It looks like marriage (or the lack of it) factored into the whole affair in a big-time way.
Exactly What Grandma Said
Esther spoke to The Sun from Idaho.
“Kylie and I keep in touch, we both have iPhones and Facetime. She puts the baby on the FaceTime and I can see her progress, she’s a darling little child,” she said of her famous grand-daughter and Stormi.
“I was sympathizing with Kylie a short time ago about the breakup with the baby’s father [Travis],” she added.
“Kylie just smoothed over it real quickly, [saying] ‘We’re both going to be good parents to her’ like in defence almost.”
Convinced The Split Happened Because Travis Never Married Kylie
Esther fully credited the relationship’s breakdown due to the lack of marriage.
“But that’s what happens really, so often,” she added.
“Young people today, they think they can live together, start a family together, without being married, it doesn’t work! I don’t know” were her concluding words.
Travis and Kylie embarked on their whirlwind romance in April 2017. Kylie was pregnant within “weeks,” per Travis’ Rolling Stone interview, with the former couple’s daughter Stormi Webster born in February 2018. While plans of marriage were mentioned, nobody ever walked down the aisle.
Travis Never Did ‘Propose In A Fire Way’
Fans of the Astroworld rapper will recall those 2018 words. Travis had told Rolling Stone that marriage with Kylie was definitely on the cards. He did need to find a dope way to ask, though.
“We’ll get married soon. I just gotta sturdy up — I gotta propose in a fire way,” he told the magazine.
Kylie and Travis’ social media activity frequently sparked marriage rumors as the former couple enjoyed both their relationship and parenting daughter Stormi together. With Kylie dubbing Travis “hubby” and the rapper calling Kylie “wifey,” fans were pretty much convinced that these two would eventually become husband and wife.
Then It All Fell Apart
Kylie really did seem to have found “the one.” Young as she was to be a mother, the world’s youngest billionaire was adamant that she’d found her one true love, with many an interview showing the Kylie Skin founder as 100% certain that Travis was the only man on earth who could make her happy.
September 2019 brought a racy, nude shoot as the famous couple were featured by Playboy, but it had all fallen apart by October. Kylie and Travis had featured heavily on social media together for Kylie’s luxurious 22nd birthday travels, but the youngest KarJenner won’t be ringing in her 23rd birthday with Travis.
Those Drake Rumors
Kylie now finds herself romantically linked to rapper Drake, although it all firmly stands at a rumor. In fact, the latest seems to be suggesting that Kylie isn’t interested in pursuing anything with the “God’s Plan” rapper because he’s a “womanizer,” per Capital Xtra.
Kylie’s post-split tweet reassured fans that she and Scott are on “good terms.” Why they split? Well, aside from Esther’s recent reveal, it’s still up in the air. Kylie now joins sisters Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian in being a single mother.

The Assistant Trailer: Julia Garner Stars in the Weinstein-Based Thriller
The movie about a day in the life of a Harvey Weinstein assistant has a trailer. The insidious Weinstein-ish figure doesn’t ever appear in the movie, which instead follows Julia Garner, playing a character based on public records and documents and original interviews. Kitty Green (Casting JonBenet) directs: Jane’s scored a job as the junior assistant to a powerful entertainment executive. “Her day is much like any other assistant’s — making coffee, changing the paper in the copy machine, ordering lunch, arranging travel, taking phone messages, onboarding a new hire,” the log line reads. “But as Jane follows her daily routine, she, and we, grow increasingly aware of the abuse that insidiously colors every aspect of her workday, an accumulation of degradations against which Jane decides to take a stand, only to discover the true depth of the system into which she has entered.” Succession’s Matthew Macfadyen, Makenzie Leigh, and Kristine Froseth also star. See it in theaters January 31.

Banana Duct-Taped to a Wall Sells for $120,000 at Art Basel Miami
A banana duct-taped to a wall has sold for $120,000 at Art Basel Miami, the international art fair featuring works by acclaimed and emerging artists. Another edition of the concept art is expected to sell for $150,000.
The humorous minimalist artwork comes from Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan and is titled Comedian.
Two editions of the banana-and-duct-tape art were presented by French contemporary gallery Perrotin at Art Basel on Wednesday, and both sold for $120,000 apiece. Artnet reports the first edition was purchased by a French woman and the second edition by a French man on Wednesday.
According to Artnet, after the sales of the first two editions, Perrotin gallery founder Emmanuel Perrotin called Cattelan and they agreed to sell a third edition for $150,000. The website reports that two institutions have expressed interest in purchasing the item. Perrotin could not immediately be reached for comment on whether a sale has gone through.
Gallery founder Emmanuel Perrotin said he was surprised by the fervor caused by Comedian at the art fair Wednesday. “It’s a miracle. I don’t know how this happened,” Perrotin told Artnet.
Cattelan did not expound on the meaning of the artwork to Artnet, but Perrotin told CNN that bananas are “a symbol of global trade, a double entendre, as well as a classic device for humor” and that Cattelan has form in transforming everyday objects into “vehicles of both delight and critique.”
In a press statement, the Perrotin gallery said Cattelan came up with the idea for Comedian about a year ago and opted to use a real banana after initially conceiving an idea for a sculpture shaped like a banana. “Every time he traveled, he brought a banana with him and hung it in his hotel room to find inspiration. He made several models: first in resin, then in bronze and in painted bronze, finally coming back to the initial idea of a real banana,” the statement said.
Known for his satirical style, one of Cattelan’s most famous artworks is America, a fully-functioning 18-karat solid gold toilet which is worth $6 million.
The gold toilet was first installed at the Guggenheim in 2016 and was available for use to the public.
In September, America was installed at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire, England, as part of an exhibition of Cattelan’s work, where it was stolen. Two men were arrested and released at the time.
In a statement, Cattelan said in September: “I always liked heist movies and finally I’m in one of them.”
In October, British police arrested three more people in connection with the crime.
The gold toilet has not yet been recovered.
Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2020 Is Anti-Anxiety Blue
Pantone’s color of the year is Classic Blue. You could also call it 19-4052, if you geek out on that kind of stuff.
How to describe Classic Blue? If Yves Klein Blue had a baby with Indigo Blue, it would be Classic Blue. There’s a little Royal Blue in there somewhere, too, so maybe there could be some Yves-Indigo-Royal love triangle thing. Pantone describes the color as “aboundless blue evocative of the vast and infinite evening sky.” It’s very soothing — anti-anxiety blue, if you will.
So, how did they land on this color? Team Pantone looks at trend forecasts, fashion, beauty, lifestyle, political views, media, street art, travel destinations, new technologies, and new textures — to name just ten of the categories they consider. Then it’s time to narrow it down to a color family. And they found it was a blue mood.
“The color has to be emblematic of a global mood,” explains Laurie Pressman, vice-president of the Pantone Color Institute. She says this year’s pick harks back to the year the Pantone first began selecting colors of the year, two decades ago.
“In 1999, everybody was nervous about Y2K,” she explains. “Some of us were excited, some of us were shaky. ‘Is the world going to blow up?’ And here we are, heading into 2020, which I always referred to ask the ‘future’ and now we’re living in it. And we’re looking for same color characteristics and factors that would instill calm, confidence, and connection. With blue, this always comes to mind.”
Back then, the first color of the year was called Daylight Sky. Classic Blue is also sky-related, but the sky at dusk.
“It’s thought-provoking and a little deeper, but not a deep navy,” says Pressman. “This blue is not taking you into the mystery of what lies ahead. Instead, it speaks to our need for a stable and dependable foundation. We’re living in a time that requires trust and faith. We’re looking to those we can depend on.”
The past three Pantone Colors of the Year have been Greenery, Ultra Violet, and, last year, Living Coral — all bright but decidedly nonpartisan shades. You could argue that this one reads Democratic, but I think it’s significant that it’s so soothing. It’s a color for going into an election year, one that says, “Better rest up before the battle. But before you pull the covers over your head, would you take a look at how gorgeous the sky is?”
