“It’s Okay To Be White” flyers found on university campus
DANBURY, CT (WFSB) — The president of a Connecticut university said hate-filled flyers were randomly distributed throughout campus on Thursday night.
Western Connecticut State University President John Clark said he is shocked and saddened about the flyers and inscriptions found on university property.
The flyers had “It’s Okay to be white” written on them, according to WCSU officials.
An investigation is underway involving Danbury police, CT State Police, and the FBI, where surveillance footage will be reviewed.
Interviews with anyone who may have witnessed the behavior will also take place.
“Have no doubt that we are treating this as an attack on our university community and making every effort to see that those responsible are caught and properly punished. I am fully committed to the absolutely necessary goal this does not happen again. We must be ever vigilant to protect our university against these hateful attacks,” Clark said in a letter.

New policy at a Virginia mall requires shoppers to ‘please remove hoods’
NORFOLK, Va. (WTKR) — There’s a new sign posted at each entrance of MacArthur Center.
“I did not see that sign today,” says Charie Williams.
This sign placed at an entrance of Norfolk’s MacArthur Center asks shoppers to “please remove hoods” before entering the mall.
She works right across the street from the mall. The sign reads, “Please remove hoods before entering MacArthur Center.”
“I put this on today because it was cold. It’s comfortable. I can carry everything I need in my pocket. I didn’t think nothing of it. It was cute,” said Williams.
The poster was put in place by mall management to enforce their dress code policy regarding hoodies.
“I feel like it’s for safety… everybody’s safety,” added Charlie Evans.
News 3 obtained a letter the general manager sent out Friday to mall tenants. The letter talks about holiday plans and includes an update from Norfolk Police regarding the recent arrests of two men involved in last month’s shooting inside the mall that sent two people to the hospital.
In the letter, management also addresses an update to the code of conduct. Loitering is no longer allowed in the mall.
“I think about the things that have happened here recently in regards to the shooting, and I kind of understand the worry given how many people go in and out of the mall,” says shopper Marcus Paige.
To help reduce the number of people just hanging out, the mall removed public seating areas – including a charging station.
But the rule that’s getting people’s attention is the hoodie.
Paige says, “It kind of makes sense to a degree, but I can understand how it would rub some people the wrong way.”
“I get it, but at the same time, what are they going to do? Start banning sunglasses and hats? What’s next?” adds Williams.
The mall says they are working with the police department to increase patrols throughout the property and behind the scenes.
“I just want to see everybody happy. I just want to see families happy,” said Evans.

Australian police find $200 million of meth hidden inside Sriracha bottles
our people have been arrested after allegedly trying to sneak 400 kilograms (880 lb) of methamphetamine into Australia in hundreds of bottles of Sriracha-branded hot sauce.
The boxes — which were sent by freight from the United States to Sydney — were declared as containing bottles of the chilli sauce, Australia’s New South Wales (NSW) police said in a statement Thursday.
But testing by the Australian Border Force earlier this month found the bottles contained large amounts of meth, which has an estimated potential street value of over 300 million Australian dollars ($208 million). In Australia, the street drug is colloquially known as “ice.”
“This has been a complex investigation and we know the methylamphetamine in this import was headed for a clandestine lab in the Sydney Metropolitan area for the extraction process to occur,” State Crime Commander Stuart Smith said in a statement, using an alternative term for methamphetamine.
Sriracha is a popular hot sauce that’s gained a cult following around the world.
Earlier this month, police arrested three men aged in their 30s over the alleged meth smuggling. On Thursday morning, police arrested a fourth suspect — a 45-year-old man.
Police said the four men were key members of the network, but are still investigating to find other people linked to the criminal syndicate.
“This detection should serve as a warning to criminal groups that no matter how clever you think you are being in the way that you attempt to conceal and move your drugs, our officers have the skills, technology and the resources to find them and track down the people who are attempting to bring them in,” said Matt O’Connor, the acting Australian Border Force regional commander for NSW.
It’s not the first time smugglers have been busted trying to sneak drugs into Australia in surprising objects. In the past, Australian police have also seized drugs hidden in snow globes and in stereo speakers

Woman didn’t know she was pregnant, delivered healthy baby girl after weight loss surgery
Hillsborough County (WFTS) — A Florida woman was in for an unexpected surprise after her new weight loss surgery.
For close to a decade, Daria Yackwack, a former Tampa resident who now lives in Fort Walton Beach, had to live with polycycstic ovary syndrome.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services defines it as a hormonal imbalance that affects 1 in 10 women. For Yackwack, it meant weight gain and lots of changes for what her future would look like.
“Back when I first got diagnosed, (doctors) were like ‘it’s going to be really hard to get pregnant,’” said Yackwack.
Last year, she made a decision for herself to have gastric sleeve surgery. It was a surgery that would remove more than half of her stomach.
Her weight loss was evident in pictures and her doctors said she was doing great.
But in August, it was when her success turned into a scare.
“I woke up with a very bad back pain. I was crying and like screaming and I woke up my other half and I was like ‘my back really hurts. I’m not sure what’s really going on,’” said Yackwack.
A trip to the bathroom didn’t seem right to her. She thought a cyst ruptured due to her PCOS, she said it happened all the time.
Turns out, she was 35 weeks pregnant.
“(Doctors) came and did a fourth ultrasound and they went up like in my ribcage and they’re like, ‘oh yeah. There’s a baby in there. It’s a big baby. You’re going to give birth,’” said Yackwack.
Nine hours later, Aurora Lynn was born.
She was born five weeks early, had no prenatal care, no checkups and was a healthy baby girl.
“I am so happy to be a momma. She is a great little baby girl,” she said.
Yackwack said it’s now nice to know that she can get pregnant, but right now, one is perfect.

Anti-vax mom says she gave out lollipops tainted with chickenpox for Halloween: ‘We have the packaging down pat’
An anti-vaccination mother took to social media on Wednesday to share her decision to give out tainted lollipops for Halloween.
The Australian mother, who identifies herself online as Sarah Walker RN, shared in the private Facebook group “Stop Mandatory Vaccination” that her son, whose name has been redacted, contracted chickenpox and that she planned to “help” other children in the community by spreading the virus through candy.
“So my beautiful son [redacted] has the chickenpox at the moment and we’ve both decided to help others with natural immunity this Halloween!” Walker wrote. “We have the packaging open and closing down pat and can’t wait to help others in our community.”
Walker’s message was screenshot and shared on Light for Riley, a page dedicated to protecting “babies & families from vaccine-preventable diseases” in honor of Riley Hughes, a baby boy who tragically died from whooping cough in March 2015.
“Have you ever seen something that instantaneously makes your skin crawl?” the post, written by Riley’s father, Greg Hughes, reads.
Walker claims to be a registered nurse at the “Royal Children’s Hospital, Brisbane” on her Facebook page. However, Queensland Health, the parent company of The Royal Children’s Hospital — which is actually located in Melbourne, not Brisbane — confirmed that she was never employed at any of its medical facilities.
“There are no current or former employees by that name that have worked for Queensland Health as a registered nurse,” a spokesperson wrote on Facebook. “This is a serious issue and has been referred to police, who are investigating.”
Walker later took to Facebook to double down on her argument, despite widespread backlash online.
“Dear internet trolls,” she wrote. “You think you’re right by judging me and my trying to report me and get me fired. I don’t care. The health and wellbeing of my baby is far more valuable than any job.”
“You say I’m vile and gross like I have done something that hundreds of thousands of parents haven’t already done,” she continued. “How many times do you see children dropped off to day care or school when they’re clearly sick and contagious? Exactly!”
“And I’m offering life long immunity for the price of a couple of blisters and a few days off school,” she added.
Thankfully, whether Walker went ahead with her scheme or it was entirely made up, Queensland Health told News.com.au that the risk of chickenpox transmission from such tainted lollipops would be extremely low, since the virus does not survive long on surfaces.
However, if Walker were to be found guilty of food tampering, or making false claims to do so, she could be facing serious prison time.
In September 2018, Australia’s parliament increased the jail term to 15 years for anyone convicted of contaminating foodstuffs after an epidemic of needles being discovered in strawberries and other fruits terrified the country, Reuters reports.
The bill even criminalized making hoax claims about food tampering, an offense now punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

How Quitting Weed Helped Doja Cat Step Up Her Songwriting
“I’m actually reflecting on who I am as a person.”
After going viral last year with “MOOO!,” rapper Doja Cat earned her first Billboard Hot 100 hit this summer with “Juicy.” In anticipation of her upcoming sophomore album, Hot Pink, she sat down for a Los Angeles Times interview in which she spoke about stepping up her songwriting after quitting weed.
Doja admitted to being “super high all the time” while recording her last album, 2018’s Amala. “I thought it’d be cool to be that person smoking so much weed, that it was the only way to be respected,” she explained. “Then I realized ‘Oh, yeah, I can just be myself.’ I’m making so much more music now.”
For Hot Pink, Doja took a completely different approach that allowed her to write more meaningful, introspective music:
When I stopped and did this album, I’ve never been more concise and clear and levelheaded. People will love me and hate me for it: ‘Why doesn’t she sound like she doesn’t know what she’s talking about anymore?’ I used to write stuff where it didn’t matter. Now there are things I believe in, that get me excited and piss me off. I’m actually reflecting on who I am as a person.
As the LA Times points out, however, the project doesn’t shed the creativity and humor that propelled the LA native’s viral rise. On her most recent single, “Rules,” Doja name-drops Bob Dylan and Paris Hilton while calling herself a reptilian:
Bobs on me like Dylan, blondes on me like Hilton
Wendys on me like Williams, shouting, digging
Look at me like I’m alien
Bitch, I’m fucking reptilian
Meanwhile, another single titled “Bottom Bitch” samples the classic blink-182 hit, “What’s My Age Again?,” as Doja imagines herself as a pimp.
Hot Pink arrives next Friday, November 7. Doja co-produced most of the album with her longtime collaborator Yeti Beats, with additional contributions from Ben Billions and Salaam Remi.

Watch the video below starting at the :16 mark
Myah Autry said her decision to climb a fence and head into the lion’s den was a “spiritual” experience.
A woman who is wanted by police for trespassing after climbing into the lion enclosure at the Bronx Zoo told reporters in a bizarre interview that she wasn’t afraid to approach the wild animal.
“I fear nobody. No animal, no human, no one. So no, I wasn’t fearing of the lion because the lion loved me. That’s why he came to me and I let the lion know: Lion, I love you,” Myah Autry said press after a court appearance on Thursday for a shoplifting charge in Kearny, New Jersey.
When Autry left the courthouse she greeted the reporters with a bow, according to NBC New York. “Shalom,” she said.
In a 15-minute interview, Autry said her decision to climb a fence and head into the lion’s den was a “spiritual” experience.
“I am the lion now. Can’t you tell? Have you ever heard of reincarnation? Do your history young man!” she instructed a reporter. Then she complimented his eyes and smile.
“Do your history, it’s called reincarnation. I am the lion now,” she repeated.
Autry was caught on video in late September standing in front of the lion in the African lion exhibit. Videos show she broke into a dance and waved at the creature, which stood nearly motionless, staring at her.
The Bronx Zoo confirmed the woman had breached a barrier and said there was a concrete trench between Autry and the lion.
Autry is wanted on a trespassing charge by the New York City Police Department, which said she also entered a fenced giraffe enclosure on the same day.
Autry would not address her shoplifting charge on Thursday, but said she would eventually turn herself in on the trespassing charge, adding, “I do know the law.”
“I love the NYPD. Hi, NYPD,” she said into a camera.
She also addressed the lion once more.
“I love you lion, hope they treating you right in the zoo. Know Myah love you. I didn’t mean to mistreat you or nothing,” Autry said. “I seen how you came to me. We connected.”

Sex offender arrested after using the Bible App to target teen girls at church
HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. (WFTS/Meredith) — A Florida man is accused of using the YouVersion Bible App to secretly reach out to underage girls at a church youth group.
According to a warrant, Douglas Earl Kersey was eventually charged thanks to an observant congregation member who noticed the odd online behavior and notified the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
“She’s a hero to me, she’s a real hero,” said Reverend Russell Meyer. He’s part of the Lutheran Parish of Tampa and heads two churches. To his knowledge, his churches are not involved in this case.
Court documents show FDLE received the tip in late September. The churchgoer told the agency Kersey was using the Bible App so he can “befriend young teenage girls in their church and communicate with them online.” The Bible App touts itself as being on over 350 million devices worldwide.
“Unfortunately it’s not surprising,” said Rev. Meyer. “There’s a world of nasty people who want young children and open platforms give them an open door to them.”
The churchgoer told the investigator she became suspicious of Kersey’s activity and searched his name online after he friend requested several teenage girls in their youth group.
“It was unheard of for me and I’ve been with the sheriff’s office 21 years and been an investigator, school resource deputy,” said Detective Theresa Grooms, who worked the case for HCSO. “I did not even know that they could friend request and converse on that app.”
The tipster learned Kersey was a registered sex offender after looking up his name. She told investigators Kersey’s list of friends consisted mostly of young females. The girls in her church group who accepted his friend request are all minors and “that was concerning to her.”
“It was very concerning,” said Grooms, “You have young ladies that are meeting in a youth group to study the Bible, study the church activities and you have a registered sex offender who has projected himself into that group.”
The FDLE researched Kersey and realized he failed to do one of the 22 legal rules and regulations sex offenders sign and acknowledge they will adhere to. According to the court documents, Kersey did not disclose to HCSO any email addresses, websites, and profiles to social media accounts he was using, including the Bible App. Failure to report the information is a third degree felony.
“So simply to say ‘well it’s a Bible program, nothing could go wrong’ misunderstands who is allowed to use them,” said Reverend Meyer of the app.
Kersey has a criminal history of unlawfully communicating with minors. In 2013, he spent nearly three years in prison for transmission of material harmful to minors and unlawful use of a two-way communication device.Click to find out more about a new promotionDon’t miss this content from our sponsor
Kersey admitted to HCSO and FDLE investigators he did not tell them about a gmail account he was using. He also admitted to actively using the Bible App. Investigators found the app open on his phone after he agreed to a search.
“I’m really happy to actually hear about the intervention that happened because too often we hear about something terrible that happened to a child too late,” said Rev. Meyer.
Grooms has one piece of advice for parents.
“Be aware. Check their social media, check their phones, check their email addresses, check their friends. Then you have to double and quadruple check.”
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office will not name the church involved because of its interpretation of Marsy’s Law. The agency is looking into whether there are any other apps Kersey may have used to illegal communicate with minors.
