Pastor Jarrid Wilson, Who Died By Suicide At 30, Remembered For ‘Gentle And Loving’ Soul
Popular megachurch pastor and mental health advocate Jarrid Wilson died by suicide on Monday at age 30, his family and church announced. The death has prompted religious leaders to send messages about mental illness as they remember Wilson as “a champion for the vulnerable.”
“I’m heartbroken over the passing of my friend @JarridWilson,” Robby Gallaty, the senior pastor of Long Hollow Baptist Church, tweeted. “He was a champion for anyone struggling with anxiety/depression/suicide. I’m praying for [Juli] and the children. I’m going to miss him very much.”
Jarrid’s wife, Juli Wilson, broke the news in an Instagram post featuring a video of Jarrid playing with their son. Juli explained in the video that Jarrid had died by 11:45 p.m., writing that “suicide doesn’t get the last word.” Over the years, Jarrid set out to help those struggling with depression and mental illness.
Those who knew Jarrid, if only through social media, praised his efforts.
“Absolutely grieved by the loss of my friend @JarridWilson. Pray for his wife and children,” Daniel Darling, of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, wrote on Twitter. “Jarrid was a champion for the vulnerable. Loved the gospel. And a relentless advocate pushing the church to take mental illness seriously.
Singer Jamie Grace even wrote about her own struggles as she paid tribute to Jarrid in a Twitter post.
“i just found out about the passing of @JarridWilson, who took his own life,” she began. “As someone who battles anxiety and depression, his posts always encouraged me and i enjoyed chatting with him and his audience on Twitter.”
n 2016, Jarrid founded Anthem of Hope, a Christian organization dedicated to supporting people battling “depression, anxiety, self-harm, addiction and suicide.” Jarrid’s social media pages are full of messages from the pastor about hope for those with mental health challenges. On the day of his death, Jarrid shared a tweet from the Anthem of Hope Twitter account that read, “Lonely? Depressed? Need someone to talk to?”
In the wake of Jarrid’s death, other leaders have shared numbers to call for support for those having suicidal thoughts.
“Today is World Suicide Prevention Day, which normally makes me think of losing my grandfather at 17. But when I woke up this morning, I had no idea it would be a day that left me unexpectedly grieving the loss of my friend, Jarrid Wilson, who died by suicide last night,” Benjamin Corey, a prominent Christian figure, wrote in a Tuesday Facebook post.
“I had no idea what I’d think of you before we got to Armenia… I think I was skeptical we’d have anything in common or remotely like each other, but you turned out to be one of the most gentle and loving souls I’ve ever known… and I have been honored that this life included having you as a friend,” he added.
Jarrid is survived by his wife and their two sons Finch and Denham. A GoFundMe set up for the family has raised more than $76,000.
As the public continues to mourn, many social media users have been returning to the pastor’s recent social media posts, many of which include messages of vulnerability and hope.
“My name is Jarrid Wilson. I’m a husband, father, pastor and author. I also struggle with depression, and have for most of my life,” he wrote on Facebook in July. “I’m not telling you this so that you can feel bad for me, I’m telling you this so people know that they’re not alone, and that God offers the strength and hope you need to keep going.”
“We’ve all got things in life we struggle with,” he added. “We’re all imperfect. We’re all in need of a perfect savior. You’re not alone. It’s okay to admit you’re not okay. Admitting your struggle is the first step in finding healing.”

PewDiePie pulls $50,000 pledge to Jewish anti-hate group after fan backlash
In a video uploaded today, Kjellberg said that he didn’t know much about the ADL when he made the pledge. It was only after uploading the video and seeing feedback about the organization that he admitted he “didn’t know a lot of things that surfaced throughout this whole thing about the charity.” He made the original announcement during an unboxing of a special YouTube Play button to celebrate surpassing 100 million subscribers.
“I made the mistake of picking a charity that I was advised to instead of picking a charity that I’m personally passionate about,” Kjellberg said in the video. “Which is 100 percent my fault.”
Kjellberg previously addressed the criticism against his donation in a recently deleted tweet, acknowledging that “making a donation to the ADL doesn’t make sense to everyone, especially since they’ve outright spoken against me.” A spokesperson for the ADL told The Verge at the time that they learned about the “potential donation when everyone else did: when he made the announcement on his channel yesterday.”
The original announcement about his donation to the ADL comes after Kjellberg stated he wanted to move past his former controversies. Kjellberg first drew global criticism for paying two men on Fiverr to hold up a sign with anti-Semitic imagery in February 2017. He was then caught using a racist expletive during a gaming live stream on YouTube. Most recently, he tried to distance himself from a popular meme, known as “Subscribe to PewDiePie,” after it was used in the Christchurch terrorist attack in New Zealand earlier this year.
Kjellberg said he’s still going to donate the $50,000, which he received as a sponsorship from Honey. He hasn’t announced which charity will receive the money, but said he plans to take his time with it. The Verge has reached out to Kjellberg’s team for further comment.
Update (September 12th 1:40pm ET): A representative from the ADL pointed The Verge to the organization’s previous statement, given yesterday. It can be read in full below.
“ADL learned about the potential donation from Felix Kjellberg when everyone else did: when he made the announcement on his channel earlier this week. We have not received any communication from him beyond that.”

Farrah Abraham confuses 9/11 with ‘7-Eleven’ convenience store as she visits Ground Zero
Farrah Abraham commemorated the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks with a trip to Ground Zero — but the visit didn’t come without a massive gaffe that’s floored social media users.
The former “Teen Mom” star, 28, on Wednesday seemingly confused 9/11 with the convenience chain store 7-Eleven.
“OK, so we wanted to do, since it’s going to be September 11th, in honor of the Freedom Towers and the observatory deck and everything of 7-Eleven, we are going to do this,” Abraham says in videos posted online. “Wow, look at this guys,” she adds, pointing the camera upward to show One World Trade Center.
The MTV cast member-turned-adult film star said she was in fifth grade when the Twin Towers collapsed in 2001 — and she was visiting the building in New York City’s Lower Manhattan to “enjoy this experience” with her daughter, Sophia, as she’s now in fifth grade herself. Nearly 3,000 people died in the Sept. 11 terror attacks and thousands more suffered injuries.
Abraham described One World Trade as “gorgeous, beautiful and in memory of a lot of loved ones and a lot of others lost,” and added she believes it’s important for her 9-year-old daughter to learn about Sept. 11, as she wasn’t alive when it happened.
While Abraham seemingly didn’t notice her mistake in her video, which she uploaded to Instagram and YouTube, social media users were quick to condemn her, claiming the error was disrespectful.
One commenter said while they don’t normally judge others, they felt Abraham’s video “is so disrespecting towards the people who lost and probably still are in pain of what happened that day… Many have fought to help a lot of people and many have lost their lives that day.”
“Just another vlog for you to get likes. You have no idea or respect for the meaning of 9/11. I’ve never seen a more delusional human being. Disgusting,” someone else wrote.
Some questioned why Abraham wanted to “enjoy” visiting Ground Zero, considering the horror that took place there.
“She said they enjoy the experience how can you enjoy going to the 9/11 memorial your meant to take a minute and think about those poor people not enjoy it,” someone said, with another adding: “Why would you enjoy this experience! What’s joyful about it! Stupid springs to mind.”

Men pull guns over cold McDonald’s burgers, arrested while waiting for new order
These hot-headed McDonald’s patrons really lost their cool.
Two Florida customers brandished guns at a McDonald’s drive-thru worker after complaining that their food was cold, authorities said.
Jawan Davis and Jordon Dunn, both 20, demanded their order be remade and flashed the firearms around 4 a.m. Monday at the Palm Coast fast-food joint, the Dayton Beach News-Journal reported.
“I don’t play about my food,” Davis reportedly said after receiving five cold burgers.
The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office said the employee instead went to the back of the restaurant to call 911.
Deputies arrived while the two customers were still at the drive-thru window waiting for their new order.
Davis told authorities that the pair was only joking when they whipped out the handguns — but they weren’t pleased that their food was cold.
“This is a story that could have had a very different outcome,” Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly told news station WESH. “This employee kept his cool and did the right thing by calling us. Thanks to his actions and the quick response from our deputies, no one was injured.”
Both men were arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Dunn also faces charges of marijuana possession while Davis was booked on charges of driving without a Florida license and grand theft of a firearm.

Two men captured pushing dead body on shopping cart through Harlem
Here’s one thing you can’t actually get at Target: a dead body rolled up inside a red carpet.
Two men used a Target shopping cart to push a corpse through the streets of Harlem early Thursday, as captured in this surveillance video obtained by The Post.
The footage shows the two men on either side of the cart, both wearing baseball caps, as they push the body down the sidewalk near West 145th Street and Bradhurst Avenue soon after 2:30 a.m.
The man walking backward repeatedly turns his head as he works with the other man to drag the cart down the sidewalk, the video shows.
At one point, an early morning bike rider rolls by, oblivious.
Hours later, a passerby on his way to the gym for his morning workout spotted the body because he noticed two feet with socks on protruding from the red carpet.
The witness called the police, who found the unconscious and unresponsive man with signs of head trauma and wrapped in a cardboard box inside of the carpet, authorities said.
Medics responded and the man – whose identity was not immediately known – was pronounced dead at the scene.

Young Ohio Mother Acquitted Of Killing Newborn – so she could keep her “perfect life”
LEBANON, Ohio (AP) — A young Ohio mother who prosecutors said killed and buried her unwanted newborn in her backyard just days after her senior prom so that she could keep her “perfect life” was acquitted of murder Thursday.
Brooke Skylar Richardson, now 20, began shaking and sobbing while a judge read the not guilty verdicts on aggravated murder, involuntary manslaughter and child endangerment charges.
She had faced up to life in prison if she had been convicted on the most serious charge.
Richardson, though, was found guilty of corpse abuse by the Warren County jury that deliberated for four hours. She’ll be sentenced Friday. The charge carries a potential sentence of up to one year in prison, but as a first-time offender, she could get probation.
Richardson was walked out of the courtroom in handcuffs after Warren County Judge Donald Oda II revoked her bond. She and her mother exchanged tearful “I love you’s'” as deputies led her away.
Richardson didn’t respond when reporters later asked her if she had anything to say.
The case divided people in her hometown of Carlisle, with Facebook pages devoted to it and some critics trying to record the Richardson family’s comings and goings for social media.
Prosecutors contended that the high school cheerleader wanted to keep her “perfect life” that included plans to begin classes at the University of Cincinnati. They said she hid her unwanted pregnancy and buried her baby in her family’s backyard in May 2017, just after her senior prom.
Her defense said the baby she named “Annabelle” was stillborn and that the teen was sad and scared.
The remains were found about two months after she gave birth, buried in the backyard of her home where she lived with her parents in Carlisle, a village about 40 miles (64 kilometers) north of Cincinnati.
A forensic pathologist who testified for the prosecution concluded the baby died from “homicidal violence.” Prosecutors said Richardson had searched on the internet for “how to get rid of a baby.” They played video for the jury of a police interview in which Richardson said the baby might have moved and made noises.
Cincinnati psychologist Stuart Bassman said “Skylar was being manipulated” into making false statements during interrogations. He described Richardson as a vulnerable, immature person whose dependent personality disorder makes her want to please authority figures, even to the point of making incriminating statements that were untrue.
Julie Kraft, an assistant prosecutor, suggested that besides wanting to please authorities, Richardson’s desire to please her family and boyfriend and fear of them abandoning her could have motivated her to commit extreme acts.
Her attorneys had had twice asked to move the trial that drew daily coverage from Court TV, citing intense publicity they said was fueled by the prosecution. But the judge denied their motions.

Sherri Shepherd Opens Up About Difficulty of Paying Child Support for ‘Two Baby Daddies’
Sherri Shepherd is dealing with a lot these days and paying child support to her two ex-husbands isn’t making things any easier for her.
The comedian actress is usually bringing the laughs, but in a candid Instagram post she made Wednesday, she said she’s “careening” over career woes and personal difficulties.
“So much transition in my life I feel like my head is spinning… everything seems a little off… a lot of no’s being thrown my way… being told I am a ‘tough sell’… raising my very moody teenage son by myself… (if you see his dad tell him his son’s mother needs a little help)… child support payments to two baby daddies… gotta stay employed bc if I don’t the entire house of cards will collapse… family far away… needed by many and only able to help a few… always hustling… I never stop grinding…”
Shepherd went on to explain that while she usually takes her “pain” to make “it funny at a comedy club,” she is thankful for the support she has from her family and friends because “at this moment I am careening.” The “Funny You Should Ask” star also credited working out for helping her through the difficulties of life.
Finally, she added jokingly, “and even in the midst of this mental mind depression, I’ll get a hundred requests for someone wanting to do graphics and my next animation artwork & cartoon illustrations ?? #youcantbreakme #onlyforaseason #godwontgiveyoumorethanyoucanhandle.”
And while Shepherd noted she can’t indulge in favorites like cheesecake and peach cobbler, she does have support from her celebrity pals like Loni Love, Niecy Nash and Vanessa Bell Calloway.
But what several fans latched onto was Shepherd’s remark about her ex-husbands. The former “The View” panelist married Lamar Sally in 2011 after Nash introduced the two. By 2017, their divorce was finalized. Shepherd and Sally share Lamar Sally Jr., who is 5 years old. Before then, Shepherd wed Jeff Tarpley in 2001 and they divorced in 2010. They share 14-year-old son Jeffrey Tarpley.
“Sis you look amazing. I’m sorry your two baby daddy’s aren’t helping out. They need to get jobs and start helping ya!.”
“Your transparency…wow. I sometimes find it taking care of teenage sons with tons of help, so I sincerely feel your pain. It surely takes a village to raise a child. Praying for you and genuinely wish I could help you (although I feel like Niecy, you’d have to put those huge dogs away). ? Hugs from afar???”
Shepherd has been open about her issues with her exes in the past, even chiming in on having to pay child support on an Instagram post that Nash made last year.
Shepherd was ordered to pay Sally $4,100 in child support, while she pays $131 monthly to Tarpley, who shares custody of their teenager.

Loud sex mistaken for fight leads to gunshots at Days Inn Hotel
Townson, MD (WMAR) — Police responded for a fight inside a hotel room, then it turned out it was just two women having loud sex, it ended with a security guard getting shot at.
That’s what charging documents say happened Monday afternoon at the Days Inn Hotel in the 8700 block of Loch Raven Boulevard in Towson.
It all started when two clerks working at the front desk of the hotel got a call from one of the rooms.
During the call, the workers reportedly heard two people fighting in the background, prompting the on-duty security guard to call police.
Arriving officers spoke with two women who were supposedly in the room when the commotion was heard. Each told police they were not fighting but were having sex.
At the request of the security officer, police ordered the women to pack up and leave the hotel.
One of the women thought she left a cell phone in the room, at which point an officer escorted her back to look for it.
When they returned, the other woman, 34-year-old Allison Daughtrey had gone into the lobby and began to argue with hotel staff.
According to the guard, Daughtrey pulled out a handgun and pointed it at him.
The guard then tried to take the gun away and wrestle Daughtrey to the ground, causing the gun to fire and strike a door frame in the lobby.
Meanwhile a Baltimore County Police officer was outside feet way, heading back to his patrol car when he heard the gunshot.
The officer came inside to find Daughtrey being restrained by the guard, and arrested her.
Police wrote in the charging documents that surveillance footage shows Daughtrey entering the lobby, getting into an altercation with the guard, and later pulling out a gun.
In an interview with police, Daughtrey says the guard hit her first, at which point she alleges to have taken her purse and swung it at the guard which caused the gun to fall out and fire. Daughtrey admitted to police that the gun was hers and she bought it in North Carolina.
No one was struck during the incident, but according to police the security guard had to be taken to the hospital after being bitten by Daughtrey during the argument.
Daughtrey is currently being held without bond on multiple charges including Attempted Second Degree Murder, First and Second Degree Assault, and gun crimes.
A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for October 4 at 8:30 a.m. at the District Court for Baltimore County in Towson.

3-year-old boy dies after accidentally shooting himself in Saint Louis
ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KMOV.com) – A young boy accidentally shot himself at a North County apartment complex, police say.
St. Louis County police said 3-year-old Rodney March III was at home with his mother and father when he accessed an unsecured gun in a bedroom and accidentally shot himself in the 9500 block of Jacobi shortly before noon. After the shooting, his mother started driving the child to the hospital and encountered a police officer near a Family Dollar store in the 9800 block of Halls Ferry Road.
The officers began to perform medical assistance to the child, but realized time was short.
“A decision was made based on this child’s injuries that we could not wait for an ambulance,” St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar. “One police officer drove to the hospital, two police officers were in the back seat, and they were able to provide medical intervention for this child.”
After arriving at a nearby hospital, the boy was airlifted to another hospital.
Police said the child was later pronounced dead.
“It is beyond the pale and heartbreaking when we lose a child to anywhere in the communities we live in,” said Belmar said. “I’m tremendously grateful to the police officers and the manner in which they handled this investigation and the urgency they approached it with. I’m sorry their interventions and actions didn’t make a more positive outcome in this.”
Police rule the child’s death as accidental.
A wave of gun deaths across the St. Louis area has left at least 15 children, all under the age of 16, and a young mother dead since early May. Read their stories here.

Personal trainer tells woman she’s ‘way too heavy’ for his class
A 350-pound woman in the UK was rejected by a personal trainer who said she was “way too heavy” for his fitness class.
Lisa Parratt, 33, was mortified when workout instructor Gary Randall, who goes by the moniker “Buffmaster,” told her that she was “just too big” for his boot camp program at UK-based gym Slimming World, which Parratt joined earlier this year.
The response over Facebook Messenger was devastating to Parratt, who has fought to lose 35 pounds since January. When she noted that to Randall, he replied that she still has “at least six months” more before qualifying for his course.
His comments are riddled with spelling and grammatical errors, to make matters worse.
“I’m sorry to say I won’t be able to help you at bootcamp,” wrote Randall. “Your way to heavy now.”
Parratt then asked the obvious: If he’s a personal trainer, can’t he “help people lose weight?” He responded, “Yes I do but you gone to far.” He then added, “Focus on the gym for at least six months then let’s see where your at.”
Not buying it, Parratt asked again for his “reasoning.”
“Your just to big for my bootcamp that’s all,” he said. “If you lose about five stone of fat [70 pounds] [I’ll] be able to help you achieve your goals.”
Parratt, who has anxiety and an emotional support dog to help her, told The Sun, “I don’t hide from my weight but I do expect a professional [person] delivering a professional service to give a better response than that. Why didn’t he come over and have a quiet word with me when he saw me?”
After spending a “night in tears” over the embarrassment, she ultimately decided to post the exchange on Facebook to “raise awareness.”
“I was worried that if he said something like that to the wrong person, they might not be here now,” she said. “I wanted to raise awareness so I posted it on Sunday night a few hours after his message.”
Randall also took to Facebook to defend what he calls an “honest” approach to his work.
“Always best to be honest in my business sometimes brutally #teambuffmaster.”
Randall also talked to The Sun: “She is a very silly woman. She is the one making herself look a fool.”
He said the situation had been “blown out of proportion.”
Parratt says she’s been “overwhelmed” with the support she’s received on social media, including the many offers of gym memberships and training sessions by other, more willing fitness instructors.
“When it first happened I just wanted to give up,” she said, “but now I am determined to prove him wrong.”
