Paramedics arrive after child takes YouTube water challenge
ST. LOUIS – A St. Louis area mother has a warning about YouTube challenges. She says her 6-year-old son was with a friend when they recently decided to accept a challenge they saw on a video. The challenge was to hold water in their mouth without laughing. The mother says her son started laughing and choking. She called 911 and paramedics responded to her home.
“They said to watch him for a couple of hours to make sure he’s breathing okay and if he wasn’t to take him to the hospital,” said the woman who asked us not to reveal her identity. She said paramedics were concerned her son could have gotten water in his lungs. She said, fortunately, her son is okay but believes YouTube challenges should be removed.
“I was scared I was going to lose my son,” said the boy’s mother.
YouTube tells us the video has now been age-restricted and that YouTube has never been for anyone under the age of 13. The company tells us YouTubeKids is appropriate for pre-teens.
The mother we spoke with is happy the video is now age-restricted but still wishes it would be removed.

Man accused of fatally stabbing teen after NYC concert, posting pictures of her body online
ALBANY, N.Y. — A man who began stabbing himself in the neck when approached by an officer is accused of killing a 17-year-old girl and posting photos of the homicide online, police said Monday.
Bianca Devins’ body was found Sunday underneath a tarp in Utica, New York, after an officer encountered the suspect, 21-year-old Brandon Clark, police said in a statement.
Clark had emergency surgery but is expected to survive, police said.
The two attended a concert together Saturday night in New York City, where they got into some sort of argument at the venue. They arrived in Utica sometime in the early morning hours Sunday and went to a location on a dead-end street, according to the statement.
The argument “progressed” until Clark used a large, black handled knife to kill the teenager, the statement reads.
The case is being investigated as a murder and attempted suicide, Utica police Lt. Bryan Coromato said.
Investigators believe the man posted pictures of the girl’s body online, where at least one of them was widely circulated, Coromato said.
Devins and Clark met on Instagram about two months ago, which turned into a “personally intimate” relationship, according to the statement.
“They had spent time together, and were acquainted with each other’s families,” the statement reads.
Devins’ family commented on her death through the police, describing the teen as “a talented artist” and “a wonderful young girl, taken from us all too soon.”
“Bianca’s smile brightened our lives,” the family wrote. “She will always be remembered as our Princess.”
The family statement said Devins graduated from high school last month and looked forward to attending a community college in the fall.
Her death sparked a wave of attention and disgust online. Some internet users urged others to stop circulating the images.
The Utica City School District issued a statement saying they “share our deepest heartfelt condolences with her family and loved ones.”

Daycare owner who sexually abused kids gets slap on wrist
A female daycare owner convicted of abusing children, some sexually, was given a slap on the wrist Monday by an Ohio judge, who ordered her to spend just 30 days in jail as part of a reported plea deal.
Kimberly Hignite, of Grove City, had been accused of abusing at least five children while operating an unlicensed daycare out of her home, according to WBNS.
When cops arrested her last May, they said she had two dozen children in her care — all of whom were being watched by Hignite’s 71-year-old mother. The kids were between the ages of 7 months and 5 years. Police said many were left unattended in separate rooms, strapped down to car seats.
“One of my girls developed an anxiety-driven hair-pulling habit to the point that she was nearly bald,” one mother said in court Monday at Hignite’s sentencing.
“My heart breaks anytime I think about how my children were left alone, strapped into their car seats crying,” the mom added.
At least three kids were sexually abused, with prosecutors accusing Hignite of making them play the “silly private game” — which involved forced sexual touching.
“Miss Kim forced them to play using a tan and blue game board with pictures of private parts and a red spinner,” recalled another mother. “Your Honor, the sound of my autistic son and little girl being able to describe what that grown woman’s vagina looks like and feels like, is something we regrettably will never be able to forget, and honestly something that I can never forgive.”
A third mother claimed her child had to be treated for injuries she suffered at the hands of Hignite.
“My infant was left in her winter snowsuit, all day long strapped in her car seat, coming home sweating, dehydrated and hungry with awful diaper rashes to the point she was bleeding,” the mom said. “I had to take her to the doctor.”
Despite the allegations, prosecutors allowed Hignite to skate on the plea deal — which also requires her to pay for her incarceration, along with a $4,200 fine. They told WBNS that one reason they agreed to dismiss most of the charges was because some of the alleged victims’ families weren’t cooperating with the district attorney’s office.
Hignite is expected to serve her 30 days in the Richland County jail.

Woman dies after botched 21st-birthday nose job
An Italian woman died of complications from the nose job she got for her 21st birthday, according to new reports.
Maria Chiara Mete got a rhinoplasty — or nose reshaping — procedure done at the private Casa del Sole clinic in Fromia, in the province of Latina, on June 17 because she was unhappy with her appearance, the Mirror reported.
Following the procedure, she suddenly went into cardiac arrest for no apparent reason, and doctors tried to revive her — but to no avail. She was taken to the Dono Svizzero hospital, and then to the Santa Maria Goretti hospital, where she died after a week in a coma, Italian outlet Roma.fanpage.it reported.
While it’s unclear exactly how Mete died, it’s believed that a ventilator malfunction in the operating room may have played a role, according to the report. Mete may have also had a bad reaction to a drug used to lower her blood pressure and reduce bleeding during the procedure, the outlet reported.
Prosecutors in Latina are digging into the case, and an autopsy will officially confirm Mete’s cause of death.
Meanwhile, Mete’s family is desperate for answers and calling for authorities to do all they can to get to the bottom of her untimely death.
“We can’t understand how you can die at the age of 21 because of a nose operation,” her distraught uncle said, according to the Mirror.

Teen girl allegedly knocked out after turning down stranger’s advances
A British teenager claims she was punched unconscious after telling a group of creepy strangers following her in the street, “I’m sorry, I’m not interested.”
Gabrielle Walsh, 18, said she was with a male friend in the early hours walking home from a club in Manchester when three men approached them.
“I’d taken my shoes off and this guy came over and said, ‘I like your feet’. I just said, ‘OK,’ and we tried to walk away,” she told the Manchester Evening News, showing off her horribly swollen left eye from this weekend’s alleged attack.
“They kept walking behind trying to talk to me. Eventually, I turned around and said, ‘I’m sorry, I’m not interested,’ ” she claimed.
Walsh said the ringleader, in his mid-20s, kept harassing them — even calling her bespectacled pal Kyle McKeown “specky four eyes.”
“Then he hit me — he fully knocked me out,” she told the local paper.
“When I woke up I was on the floor and the three of them had jumped on Kyle as well. His glasses were gone — he’s got cuts and bruises.”
Warned there was a two-hour wait for an ambulance, Walsh said she ended up taking a taxi to a hospital.
“They didn’t do much, they basically just gave me some eye drops and told me to go home,” Walsh said, later discovering she has a blood clot on the eye. “It still can’t really see out of it, when I open my eye all I see is yellow.”
She said the attack has left her too scared to go out alone.
“I’m not a rude person, I just said, ‘Sorry, I’m not interested,’ ” she said. “I think it was a jealousy, ego thing because I rejected him in front of his friends.
“Girls feel like they can’t say ‘no.’ They feel like if they say ‘no’ then they might hurt you and in this case it was true.”
Great Manchester Police said it was hunting the “cowardly” attackers.
“This was a violent and unprovoked attack upon a young woman who was simply minding her own business during a night out,” Chief Inspector Cherie Buttle told the paper.

A deputy pulled over a car for speeding. That traffic stop saved a 12-day-old baby’s life
BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – When Deputy Will Kimbro stopped a car for speeding last month, he didn’t know he would end up saving a newborn’s life.
The dramatic episode, which took place during a routine patrol in Berkeley County, South Carolina June 11, was caught on a newly released video recorded by the officer’s body camera.
As Kimbro stopped the vehicle, the driver got out of the car and shouted that the baby stopped breathing after drinking from a bottle, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.
Her body was limp and blueish from lack of oxygen, the sheriff’s office said.
After asking the mother, who was sitting on the passenger’s seat, for the baby’s name, the deputy puts the baby on her lap, checks the pulse, and starts massaging her heart as part of lifesaving first aid.
“Come on baby, cry for me, cry for me,” he can be heard saying. “Open those eyes, sweetheart.”
As the baby starts crying, Kimbro says: “As long as she’s crying like that she’s breathing. I want you to cry. Come on.”
“I think she’s gonna be OK. She’s breathing,” the officer says to reassure the mother.
He keeps performing CPR because her breathing goes on and off, Kimbro says in the video.
Finally, the baby’s chest starts moving, meaning that she’s breathing again on her own. An emergency medical team arrives, and Kimbro and the mother recount what has happened.
The baby was taken to a local hospital for observation and released, said sheriff’s spokeswoman Carli R. Drayton.
“As far as we know, the baby has been doing well,” Drayton said.
“Because of Deputy Kimbro’s steadfast, professional and heroic response, the 12-day-old baby was able to live,” the sheriff’s office said on Facebook.
Kimbro was awarded a medal for his heroic actions.
CNN has reached out to Kimbro for comment.

Road rage leads to fatal shooting of 3-year-old girl, 1 in custody
MILWAUKEE, WI (WDJT) — Milwaukee police say they are continuing their investigation Sunday after a 3-year old girl was fatally shot Saturday morning. The suspect is in custody. They say the district attorney’s office will review the case this week for possible charges and an update will follow.
The 3-year-old identified by family members as Brooklyn Harris, was shot during a road rage incident in the area of 42nd and West Townsend.
Neighbors say they’re glad to hear the suspect is in custody, but are speechless after finding out the reason behind the deadly shooting.
“I’m glad that he’s caught and pray that justice be served for this little baby, everybody needs to wake up and make a change,” said Lisa Robinson, who lives in the same neighborhood as Brooklyn Harris.
“I’m pretty much speechless about that because how mad are you gonna get about road rage where you’re gonna shoot up a car and you don’t even know who’s in the car? It’s just like senseless you know,” said another neighbor, Derrick Reams-El.
The Original Black Panthers of Milwaukee gathered for a rally on discrimination and child violence on Sunday near the scene of the shooting.
They say the community needs to talk to their young people and add youth programs to prevent violence in the community. The Black Panthers say when one child dies, it affects the entire community.
“My heart and the panther’s heart cries out, not only for the children that have been murdered but to the families too because we’re all a victim in this, the complete village is our family. If one person is hurt, then the whole community is hurt,” said King Rick, leader of The Original Black Panthers of Milwaukee.
