California woman arrested for pepper-spraying store employee while trying to steal
VENTURA COUNTY, Calif. – Deputies arrested two women after they reportedly pepper-sprayed a dollar store employee while stealing laundry detergent and other toiletries; investigators said the products are being traded on the street for cash and drugs as part of a recent trend.
Kayla Raelynn Gularte, 21, and Kathryn Valencia Weaver, 22, were arrested in connection with the shoplifting-turned robbery Friday afternoon, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office and county booking records. They are also suspected in similar thefts in Fillmore and in Santa Barbara County earlier in the week.
The women showed up at the store and tried to leave without paying for items, including laundry detergent, women’s underwear, razors and other toiletries, Ventura County Sheriff’s Sgt. Vince Alvarez said in a written statement. A store employee confronted them in the parking lot.
“When contacted, Gularte sprayed the employee in the face with pepper spray and assaulted him in order to escape,” Alvarez said. “Gularte ran to the parking lot where Weaver was waiting in a getaway car.”
Deputies spotted a car matching the description of the one used in the crime and pulled it over, he said.
“A search of the car revealed nearly 100 items that appeared to be stolen. Deputies recovered the stolen goods from Dollar General, along with additional laundry soap, women’s undergarments, razors, and fragrances,” he said.
The arrest highlights an emerging trend of laundry detergent thefts throughout the region, Alvarez explained. The household item is being used as a currency.
“Investigators discovered that the popular and recognizable laundry detergents are being stolen and traded on the street for cash and/or drugs,” he said.
Gularte was booked on suspicion of robbery, conspiracy, illegal use of tear gas and child endangerment, according to county booking records. It was not clear Sunday whether a child was present during the alleged crimes.
Weaver was booked on suspicion of shoplifting and conspiracy, records show.
Bail for Gularte was set at $105,000, while Weaver’s bail was set at $50,000. Both were scheduled to appear in Ventura County Superior Court Tuesday.

Chicago pastor accused of abusing girls during tutoring sessions
CHICAGO — A Chicago pastor is facing multiple charges of child sexual abuse as prosecutors allege he abused two young girls inside of his home during tutoring sessions.
As a pastor at the Good Shepherd church of Chicago, prosecutors said 51-year-old Jeffrey Parks presented himself as a man of faith who helped children learn. But behind closed doors, they alleged the pastor was a predator.
Parks was arrested after being identified as the man who abused two children on multiple occasions, according to police, and is now facing charges of felony predatory criminal assault of a victim under 13, and felony aggravated criminal abuse of a victim under 13. A judge ordered parks to be held on $100,000 bond, saying he was concerned about the alleged crimes and the young ages of the victims.
In Cook County court Sunday, Assistant State’s Attorney Joseph Bucci outlined the alleged crimes, saying Parks molested twin sisters who were supposed to be receiving help with their math homework. The mother of the girls signed them up for math tutoring, and sessions took place in Parks’s apartment for a seven-month period between September 2018 and February of this year.
It was only this month, when the girls’ mother spoke with them about the dangers of unwanted physical contact, that they brought up Parks’ alleged behavior. He is alleged to have touched their thighs and private parts both over their clothes and underneath them.
Parks was arrested just after 9 p.m. Friday by police in Hyde Park, where he lives, and will appear in court again next week as he faces multiple counts of felony sex crimes.

FL Woman has been arrested over claims she beat her wife for accidentally putting marijuana in a washing machine
Ashley Perkins, 30, of Youngsville, Louisiana, was visiting family in Navarre with her spouse when an argument allegedly erupted on Monday morning over the missing drug.
According to an arrest report, the argument got violent when Perkins started beating her wife about the head, legs and left arm with a bedpost, Pensacola News Journal reported.
Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office When police arrived, Perkins told officers that she did not hit her wife and said the injuries were due to her rolling on the bedpost while sleeping.
She then changed her story, and during her ride to jail claimed that her wife had picked up the bedpost and started beating herself with it.
Perkins was booked into the Santa Rosa County Jail with a $25,000 bond and has been charged with aggravated battery causing bodily harm or disability.
Last month, a bedpost was also reportedly used by a hallucinating Florida man to attack a mattress where he thought he had seen a man in bed with his girlfriend.
The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s office said that Felipe Oquendo, 37, had been smoking methamphetamine at their Fort Walton Beach home. His girlfriend called police after he hit the mattress with a bedpost, ripped it apart and locked the bedroom door, WNCT reported.
Last December, Michael Webb, of Parish, New York, was arrested for allegedly using a broken bedpost to attack a woman at a Connecticut inn.
Police say Webb, 36, broke off the bedpost and used it to try to stab and choke the woman, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries. He was charged with assault, strangulation, breach of peace and criminal mischief, NBC New York reported.
Meanwhile, in January, a metal bedpost was used by a scorned woman to trash her partner’s $50,000 BMW 3 Series car.
Video of the attack was shared on Facebook and showed the woman causing thousands of dollars worth of damage, including piercing three large holes in the front window of the car, knocking in the lights and denting the bonnet in front of shocked neighbors, the Mail Online reported.

Ohio father pleads guilty after infant daughter dies from eating drugs
CINCINNATI, Ohio — A 40-year-old father has admitted to charges that his 1-year-old daughter died from eating his drugs in their Colerain Township home.
Prosecutors said Reagan Worthington died from swallowing fentanyl in January while adding police also recovered heroin and meth that her father, Anthony Worthington, sold out of their home.
Worthington pleaded guilty Friday to involuntary manslaughter, aggravated trafficking, child endangering and evidence tampering.
After first responders found the girl unresponsive and not breathing Jan. 4, Worthington asked his 15-year-old niece to flush a bag of meth down the toilet, but an officer recovered it, according to prosecutors.

Man sexually abuses sleeping teen on subway in Queens
CORONA, Queens — A man sexually abused a sleeping teenage girl on a subway in Queens, police said.
The 15-year-old victim was asleep on a 7 train approaching the Junction Blvd subway station on Sunday afternoon when a man walked up to her and pressed his body against her. He got off the train at the Junction Blvd subway station.
Police have asked for help identifying he man. He’s believed to be in his early 20s. The man is approximately 5 feet, 11 inches tall. He has black hair and he was last seen wearing a black turtleneck shirt, gray shorts and multicolored sneakers.

FL Checkers closed after rats were found in the fryer, cock roaches allegedly in the drink machines and photos reveal filthy restaurant conditions
PALM BAY, Fla. (WESH) — A Florida fast food restaurant was recently shut down by the Florida Department of Health due to filthy conditions.
Health officials said Wednesday that the Checkers on Babcock Street in Palm Bay was closed due to “rodent activity.”
Checkers restaurants are also known as Rally’s, depending on its geographic location.
Officials said they received a number of complaints after a former employee shared photos that she alleges showed rats and roaches in the kitchen.
The Florida Department of Health shared the photos and complaints with WESH 2 News.
“There are rats in the fryer… The top of the fryers are covered with rat poop. There are roach droppings inside,” one of the complaints said.
Another complaint alleged that there were cockroaches inside the restaurant’s drink machine
A Checkers spokesperson sent WESH 2 News the following statement:
“The health and safety of our restaurants is our top priority, and the conditions shown at this franchised location at 4840 Babcock Road N.E., Palm Bay, Fla., in no way meet our high standards. The restaurant is now closed, and the franchisee is cleaning and sanitizing the entire restaurant. The location will reopen when it receives a clean bill of health from the Health Department.”

O.J. Simpson bragged about steamy ‘hot-tub hookup’ with Kris Jenner – “‘Her eyes bugged out of her head and I f–ked that B until I broke her”
O.J. Simpson bragged that he had steamy sex with Kris Kardashian, his best friend’s wife, during a 1990s hot-tub tryst that ruined their marriages and friendships, claims the disgraced footballer’s former manager.
Simpson said he and his then-wife Nicole, and Robert and Kris Kardashian, were in a Jacuzzi one night while vacationing together, according to Norman Pardo in his new documentary, “Who Killed Nicole?”
Nicole and Robert turned in, leaving O.J., then 44, and Kris, then 36, alone in the bubbling water. Kris and Nicole were also good friends.
“‘O.J. said he stood up, pulled his shorts down and, I’ll give you exactly what he said: ‘Her eyes bugged out of her head and I f–ked that B until I broke her,’” Pardo recounts on camera in a segment previewed exclusively by The Post.
“That was as messed up as you can possibly get.”
The alleged one-night stand had longstanding consequences for the four glamorous pals.
“From what I’m understanding, from what O.J. told me, everything was great up until [the] little fling that they had,” says Pardo, 55, who says he managed Simpson from 1999 to 2012 and has 70 hours of videotape of his former friend.
“The fallout from the hot-tub incident” damaged all their relationships, contended Pardo.
The Kardashians divorced shortly afterward in early 1991 and the Simpsons split by early 1992.
Pardo claims Simpson told him the alleged affair also caused Kris — now known as Kris Jenner, the 63-year-old matriarchal manager of Kim, Khloe and company — physical pain.
Simpson said “they had to take her to the hospital at 2 or 3 in the morning,” Pardo continues in the movie. “She came to [O.J.’s] room and said, ‘Can you take me to the hospital?’ He said, ‘No. Have Rob do it.’”
Simpson, now 71, boasted of the rendezvous — and the damage his menacingly large manhood had apparently inflicted — to Pardo during a 2003 limo ride from Raleigh, NC, to a paid appearance at an Atlanta nightclub, the ex-manager told The Post.
Three years after the alleged hookup came the grisly 1994 murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Robert Goldman. While Robert Kardashian came around to join the so-called Dream Team that represented Simpson during his murder trial, Pardo maintained that it was more out of practicality than friendship.
“When O.J. was found not guilty, Robert Kardashian did not jump for joy,” Pardo said.
Robert Kardashian died of cancer in 2003.
Just a month after her 1991 divorce from Robert, Kris married Olympic hero Bruce Jenner, a woman now known as Caitlyn. They divorced in 2014.
Pardo said he is currently shopping his 90-minute feature to distributors. It will get an online release on June 12 to mark the 25th anniversary of the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Robert Goldman.
No longer on speaking terms with Simpson, Pardo said the alleged episode with Kris did not surprise him because Simpson “had a thing about being the dominant male” and “objectified” women.
In one scene, the disgraced halfback recounts a cheeky conversation with a sexual conquest: “The last girl told me that if I wasn’t 10 inches, she wasn’t interested. I said, ‘I like you. I’m a little turned on. But I’m not gonna cut two inches off for nobody.’”
Kris Jenner and O.J. Simpson did not return messages seeking comment. However, Simpson has previously denied ever sleeping with the television personality, telling a former prison guard he befriended that he “would never tap” Kris.
And in 2013, Kris Jenner shot down reports of an affair with the disgraced gridiron great.
“This is an absolute lie and not true. I have never had an affair with O.J. Simpson,” she told In Touch magazine.
In her 2017 book, “The Secrets of My Life,” Caitlyn Jenner refers to Simpson as “the most narcissistic, egocentric, neediest a–hole in the world of sports I had ever seen.”
