Video shows men allegedly forcing puppy to drink beer from keg at frat party
(Meredith) — A New York university suspended a fraternity over a video that purportedly showed two young men forcing a puppy to drink beer from a keg.
The men, who are members of Alpha Epsilon Pi, can be seen in the video holding a 10-month-old spaniel upside down and squirting beer into the pup’s mouth, News 12 Long Island reported.
Someone in the background can be heard yelling, “Let’s go!”
The five-second video was recorded Saturday at an off-campus fraternity house in Hempstead, New York, according to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), which is investigating the incident.
Hofstra University called the behavior “unacceptable.”
“In accordance with University policy, the chapter has been placed on interim suspension pending an investigation,” a university spokeswoman said in a statement.
Nassau County SPCA investigators also called the footage disturbing and cruel.
“That dog had no choice. It didn’t say, ‘Hey, I want a beer, and I want it poured down my throat,'” said Gary Rogers, of the Nassau County SPCA. “So, it’s wrong on every level.”
The dog’s owner is a 21-year-old Hofstra senior and a fraternity member.
Rogers said the dog is now in the possession of the Nassau County SPCA and is doing fine.
