Police say 2-year-old boy died after man sat on him
COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa — Iowa police say a 2-year-old boy died after a man sat on the child for allegedly taking his cellphone.
Pottawattamie County court records show 31-year-old Larry Murphy is charged with first-degree murder and child endangerment resulting in death. He’s jailed on more than $1 million bail.
Murphy’s attorney didn’t return a call Tuesday from The Associated Press.
Police allege the boy’s mother says Murphy was staying with her and her sons at a Council Bluffs motel when he became angry at the 2-year-old for taking his cellphone. She says he sat on the boy for around 20 seconds on a motel bed.
Police say Murphy is 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and weighs 160 pounds (72.6 kilograms).
The boy became unresponsive. Investigators say he was pronounced dead at a hospital where a doctor noticed signs of asphyxiation.

Wendy Williams’ Truth Revealed: Was Struggling With Drugs?
Over the past months, Wendy has received more and more grief over her erratic behavior of slurring her words, forgetting details and confusing celebrity identities.
Everyday new details came out: her husband had a mistress, her mother-in-law alleged Wendy was suffering domestic violence at the hands of Kevin, Wendy’s husband. In fact, many were convinced Wendy’s hairline fracture that she suffered was because of Kevin.
No one wanted to think that Wendy had returned to the drugs, especially when she adamantly explained that that chapter of her life was in the past, after Whitney Houston’s passing.
Wendy Williamshas been quietly focusing on her sobriety, she revealed on-air Tuesday.
“I have been living in a sober house. … You know I’ve had a struggle with cocaine in the past,” she said on The Wendy Williams Show. “I never went to a place to get treatment … there are people in your family, it might be you … I want you to know more of the story.”
She added that her husband Kevin Hunter was the only person who knew of her stay.
“Only Kevin knows about this. Not my parents, nobody. Nobody knew because I look so glamorous out here,” she said. “I am driven by my 24-hour sober coach back to a home that I live in the tri-state with a bunch of smelly boys who have become my family.”
At the faciltiy, it’s “doors locked by 10 p.m. lights out by 10 p.m., so I go to my room and stare at the ceiling and fall asleep to come here and see you,” she continued. “So that is my truth.”
Williams, 54, had been absent from her eponymous daytime talk program from January until March 4, attributing the hiatus to a fractured shoulder and her battle with a Grave’s disease, an autoimmune disease that affects the thyroid.
The daytime diva’s Hunter Foundation recently partnered with T.R.U.S.T., an organization dedicated to building a bridge from treatment to long-term recovery, to launch a national resource hotline. She has always been open about her drug use, telling PEOPLE that she was addicted to cocaine for about a decade early on in her career. (She made a name for herself on New York and Philadelphia radio, paving the way for TV stardom when The Wendy Williams Show premiered in 2008.
Drugs were a demon I had to overcome,” she explained in 2014.
Together with her family, she created The Hunter Foundation, which works with private and public organizations to help families combat the cycle of addiction.
“I was a functioning addict, this link opens in a new tab” she told Entertainment Tonight in July 2018. “I report to work on time, and I’d walk in and all my co-workers, including my bosses, would know but since I would have my headphones on and walk in the studio and [they] wouldn’t fire me because I was making ratings.”
“A functioning addict has several alarm clocks, you’re organized,” she added. “It’s a miracle I was able to stop.”
We wish Wendy well as she is recovering.

Man tries ‘Ocean’s 11’ heist at Bellagio Hotel and Casino
LAS VEGAS – It wasn’t quite a George Clooney or Brad Pitt heist, but police say a brazen robbery attempt ended with gunfire and the suspect hospitalized in Las Vegas.
About 9:45 p.m. Friday, an armed man entered a packed Bellagio Hotel and Casino and demanded money from a caged poker area, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Captain Nichole Splinter said.
He then fled and tried to steal a vehicle that had just pulled into the valet lot, but he was immediately confronted by four police officers, Splinter said.
The suspect fired his gun and struck one of the officers in the vest. A second officer fired back and hit the suspect, Splinter said.
Both the officer and the suspect were transported to a local hospital, and the officer was treated and released. The suspect is listed in critical condition.
Police said that per their policy, the identities of the officers involved will be released after 48 hours.
The incident brings to mind the movie “Ocean’s Eleven.” In the film, Danny Ocean (Clooney), Pitt and other accomplices plan a heist on several casinos, including the Bellagio.

Preschool children in East St. Louis were forced to stand naked in a closet as punishment
EAST ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – Two Head Start teachers in East St. Louis are on paid administrative leave after allegations that preschoolers were forced to strip off all of their clothes as part of punishment for misbehaving.
The teachers and students are part of the Head Start program operated by Southern Illinois University Edwardsville at the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Center.
“Children would misbehave in class and the teacher would have them disrobe and stand them, make them stand inside a closet for five or 10 minutes as their discipline. Then they would redress and join the class,” said SIUE Police Chief Kevin Schmoll.
According to Chief Schmoll, 4 of the 20 students in the class were forced to take their clothes off. The students are 4 and 5-years-old. Schmoll said this form of punishment had been going on since early February but that police were only notified last week.
“We felt that was very inappropriate and possible there’s some criminal action and some charges could come from this,” said Schmoll.
As word spread through the community about the allegations, residents told News 4 they were outraged.
“As a mother myself, I can’t believe they would let something like this go on,” said Lakysha Jeffries.
Marquis Ginger told News 4, “Something needs to be done to the teachers as far as what’s going on.”
Police said the teacher accused of disciplining students inappropriately is 26-years old and has been a Head Start teacher at the center for three years. A second teacher, aged 41 with five years’ experience in the program, was also put on paid administrative leave for allegedly seeing the students forced to take their clothes off and not reporting it.
A representative with the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s office is expected to be there when the children are more thoroughly interviewed at the Children’s Advocacy Center in Belleville in two weeks. Charges could come after that.
Cow running away from police stops traffic, goes to Chick-Fil-A
(Meredith) – A cow in Indiana stopped at Chick-Fil-A while running away from police over the weekend.
Officers with the Noblesville Police Department spent Saturday afternoon chasing the “wild bovine all over the east side.”
At one point, the animal temporarily halted traffic before running in the direction of the popular fast-food restaurant.
Athena Hopkins, who witnessed the bizarre chase, recorded a video of the cow fleeing officers and waiting outside Chick-Fil-A. That video went viral, racking up more than 660,000 views.
The department likened the pursuit to “running with the bulls” and encouraged other bystanders to share any images they may have of the “cowboy adventure.”
MySpace admits losing 12 years’ worth of music uploads
Article via BBC
MySpace, one of the first online social networks, has apologised after a server migration caused a huge loss of data.
A message on its website says that “any photos, videos and audio files” uploaded more than three years ago may no longer be available.
There had been complaints going back several months that links to music were no longer working.
The platform has waned in popularity since it was founded in 2003 but in its prime it attracted millions of users.
In 2006 it was the most visited site in the US – beating Google.
It was a popular platform for sharing new music, and has been credited with helping to launch the careers of artists including the Arctic Monkeys and Kate Nash.
“As a result of a server migration project, any photos, videos, and audio files you uploaded more than three years ago may no longer be available on or from MySpace,” the firm said in a statement.
“We apologize for the inconvenience.”
It also included the email address of its data protection officer Dr Jana Jentzsch.
The BBC has contacted Dr Jentzsch for comment.
Andy Baio, who helped build the Kickstarter crowd-funding site, tweeted that the loss could amount to some 50 million tracks by 14 million artists over that period.
He also questioned whether the loss was accidental.
“Flagrant incompetence may be bad PR, but it still sounds better than ‘we can’t be bothered with the effort and cost of migrating and hosting 50 million old MP3s’.” he wrote.
MySpace was bought by NewsCorp in 2005 for $580m (£437m). It was sold in 2011 for $35m to ad targeting firm Specific Media.
While it is no longer a major player in the social media field, some people who used it in its prime still used it as an archive.
