Formerly homeless NJ teen accepted to 17 colleges
JERSEY CITY, NJ — Homeless students have rougher times in school than many others, but one New Jersey teen whose family struggled through homelessness beat the odds.
Dylan Chidick, 17, has been accepted to 17 colleges. Chidick, who’s class president at Henry Snyder High School, was inducted into the National Honor Society when his family lived at a homeless shelter. Now he’s got his choice of schools, including Xavier University, New Jersey City University and Rowan University.
“The situation that my family has been through, I don’t want it to define me,” Chidick said.
Chidick lived in Brooklyn with his mom and younger twin brothers until a few years ago. The skyrocketing cost of living triggered an emergency move to Jersey City.
“It was because of the rent,” Chidick said. “It got too high in New York.”
His brothers both needed heart surgery. Mom Khadine Phillip lost her job.
“Everything went downhill from there,” she said.
Phillip credits non-profit Women Rising with providing a safety net for her family and for her son’s future.
“Once you have that housing stability in place, then families are able to work on their goals to improve their wellbeing,” Anne Miller-Christensen, a member of the Women Rising management team, said.
Chidick is not resting on his laurels. Now that he has his pile of acceptance letters, he’s already thinking about his next step: law school.

DMV examiner took bribes, groped women taking road tests
A Department of Motor Vehicles examiner in Queens was charged Tuesday with demanding bribes to pass drivers taking their road tests and with groping female applicants.
Ian Alexander Cioffi, 35, of Stewart Manor, LI, was hit with a slew of felony charges, according to state Inspector General Letizia Tagliafiero and Queens DA Richard Brown.
In one incident, Cioffi was administering a road test to a woman in Astoria on March 14, 2018, when he asked if she had any money, authorities said.
When the applicant said no, he took hold of the steering wheel, pulled the car to the curb and demanded $100 for a passing grade, officials said. When she refused that demand and another one for $20, Cioffi allegedly placed his hand on her leg and up her shirt — and then told her she had passed although she hadn’t performed the required three-point turn or parallel park tests, authorities said.
Officials also allege that Cioffi flunked a woman when she refused to give him “coffee,” his euphemism for cash.
Cioffi couldn’t be reached for comment.

Man busted outside Google HQ with baseball bats after his YouTube channel was shut down
A Maine man angry at Google because his YouTube channel was shut down was busted in California with baseball bats in his car while on his way to the tech giant’s headquarters, officials said.
Police arrested Kyle Long, 33, on Sunday afternoon in Mountain View, Calif., with three baseball bats in his car and his navigation set to Google’s headquarters, according to a post to the Mountain View Police Department’s Facebook page.
Iowa State Police were first alerted to Long’s bizarre behavior on Friday, when he told troopers he was on his way to the company’s flagship location in Mountain View “to meet with Google after his YouTube channel had been shut down, which he claimed was resulting in him losing money,” according to the Facebook post.
Iowa police encountered him twice that day — once during a car crash, and later when he allegedly “vandalized a restroom at a gas station store,” during which time he made the claims.
Then, on Sunday, Mountain View cops heard from Maine’s Waterville Police Department.
“They had received information that Long was not only in California, but that he had stated if his meeting with Google personnel did not go well, he was going to resort to physical violence,” the post further states.
Long was arrested shortly thereafter with the bats in his car. He was charged with making criminal threats and was being held on $25,000 bail.
NYPD cop accidentally recorded oral sex with her boss on police bodycam
The NYPD is probing claims that a Brooklyn cop performed oral sex on her boss inside a squad car while on the job — blissfully unaware that her body camera was capturing crystal-clear audio of the deed.
During a recent midnight tour in East New York’s 75th Precinct, the officer and her sergeant purportedly started getting frisky inside their car, with the female cop tucking her body camera into her vest, thinking it was turned off, police sources said.
But the camera was rolling throughout the action, capturing audio of the lusty law-officers — neither of whom was immediately identified by name — that left little to the imagination, sources said.
The female officer can even be heard gushing to her lover about the apparent sex act as they basked in the afterglow, according to sources.
The recorded rendezvous was likely uncovered by a precinct superior during a routine review of the couple’s body camera footage after their shift ended, sources told The Post.
“It’s disgusting and an embarrassment,” fumed one police source, who added that the sergeant should be demoted for fooling around with a subordinate if the erotic audio is as it seems.
“Especially since he is a supervisor and he would do that to his worker.”
It wasn’t immediately clear when or exactly where the clip was purportedly recorded, but word of its existence spread like wildfire around the East New York cop shop — and back to brass in 1 Police Plaza.
“These claims are under review,” the NYPD said in a statement, though
department insiders said that as of Wednesday afternoon neither of the
cops purportedly involved had been interviewed.
They remain on full duty.
Internal investigators have also yet to give the audio a listen, and were working Wednesday to get their hands on it to determine its authenticity, another source said.
The alleged raunchy recording comes just one week after the NYPD proudly announced that every beat cop, sergeant and lieutenant on the force — some 20,000 Finest — is now equipped with a body camera.
“Body-worn cameras enhance the safety and accountability of the dedicated men and women of the NYPD,” said Police Commissioner James O’Neill in heralding the milestone.
The department, which had been expanding body camera usage in waves since 2017, has already hit at least one other X-rated speed bump.
In December 2018, Brooklyn Detective Specialist Raymond Williams, 44, was suspended without pay for grabbing a colleague’s unattended body cam and using it to record a clip of his testicles.
Suspect kills former landlord, another woman while 6-year-old son watched
WEST NORRITON (KYW) — A woman is accused of killing her former landlord and another woman inside a West Norriton home while her 6-year-old son watched. Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele said during a press conference Monday that 43-year-old Naseema Sami, of Folsom, has been charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of 78-year-old Lila Frost and 68-year-old Lorraine Gigliello.
West Norriton Township Police responded to 10 West Indian Lane Sunday night to do a wellness check on Frost. Steele said Sami and her young son were hiding under the bed when police found them.
According to Steele, Frost was Sami’s landlord 20 years ago.
Steele says Sami arrived Thursday at the residence and let herself in through an unlocked door. Sami told police Frost told her if she ever needed anything, to contact her.
When Gigliello arrived at the apartment, Sami allegedly killed her when she reached for a phone to call police.
“There were items that were in the house that were used on the victims, as well as kicking and fists,” Steele said. “These were brutal killings.”
According to Steele, Frost arrived back at the apartment during the attack and was also killed by Sami.
“A quiet community along the Schuylkill River in West Norriton Township was rocked on Sunday when the bodies of two elderly women were discovered. They were murdered by a former renter, who had lived at the property 20 years ago and had returned because the landlord, Ms. Frost, had offered to help her if she ever needed anything,” said Steele. “Naseema Sami then murdered Ms. Frost and Ms. Gigliello, who was just visiting her friend.”
Steele says the suspect’s 6-year-old son witnessed the murders and his mother trying to clean up the scene.
The young boy is staying with other family members.
Sami is being held without bail at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility.
These are the first two homicides in West Norriton since 1986.
Woman rams several people with car after Wendy’s drive-thru altercation
CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio – A dispute police said started in a Wendy’s drive-thru ended with at least one teen being taken to the hospital and a mother of two being arrested on felonious assault charges.
Police said the incident happened just before midnight Sunday in a Wendy’s parking lot in Cleveland Heights.
They said Jamila Sloan was in the drive-thru lane with her two young children when a car behind her honked at her.
“The vehicle with the three females was honking their horn at Sloan,” the report said. The report further noted witnesses told police Sloan then opened her vehicle door and asked the females if they “were hungry” and then said, “I’ll shoot y’all.”
The females then exchanged words with Sloan.
According to police, security video from Wendy’s shows that once Sloan got her food, she drove up a few feet and parked her car. A few minutes later when the other car pulled out of the drive-thru, Sloan moved her vehicle up and an argument started.
A female got out of the other car, and the vehicle Sloan was driving struck her. Two others got out of the car, and Sloan’s vehicle can be seen striking those women, too.
Police said Sloan then took off.
“The victims got the license plate and officers were able to find her,” said Chief Annette Mecklenburg. The chief said one victim was taken to the hospital. All three victims are expected to be OK.
Sloan told officers the girls tried to jump her and she got scared and took off.
“It should be noted that after the initial encounter in the drive-thru lane, Sloan had the opportunity to leave the Wendy’s parking lot, but instead decided to park, facing outward toward the drive-thru lanes, as if to wait on the Saturn to leave,” the report stated.
Sloan is facing several charges including felonious assault and child endangering. She is free on bond and due back in court soon.
Court finds victim too ugly to be raped; protestors mob Italian court
ROME — Italy’s Justice Ministry has ordered a preliminary inquiry into an appeals court ruling that overturned a rape verdict in part by arguing that the woman who was attacked was too ugly to be a credible rape victim.
The ruling has sparked outrage in Italy, prompting a flash mob Monday outside the Ancona court, where protesters shouted “Shame!” and held up signs saying “indignation.”
The appeals sentence was handed down in 2017 — by an all-female panel — but the reasons behind it only emerged publicly when Italy’s high court annulled it on March 5 and ordered a retrial. The Court of Cassation said Wednesday its own reasons for ordering the retrial will be issued next month.
Two Peruvian men were initially convicted of the 2015 rape of a Peruvian woman in Ancona, but the Italian appeals court overturned the verdict and absolved them, finding that she was not a credible witness. In part of the ruling, the court noted that the suspects had found her unattractive and too “masculine” to be a credible rape victim.
Cinzia Molinaro, a lawyer for the victim, said her appeal to the Cassation contested a host of procedural problems with the acquittal verdict but said she had also cited the “absolute unacceptability” of the Italian court’s reference to the victim’s physical appearance.
The appeals sentence quoted one of the suspects as saying he found the woman unattractive and had her listed as “Viking” on his cellphone.
Molinaro noted that the woman, who has since returned to Peru, had suffered such genital trauma in the rape that she required stitches.
The Justice Ministry said it was conducting the “necessary preliminary investigations” into the appeals verdict. Molinaro said the ministry can send investigators to a court to check if there were any problems or omissions in the sentence, even when the case is still under appeal.
The case is the second to spark criticism in recent weeks in Italy, where cases of sexual violence and the murders of women regularly top the news.
Protests broke out earlier this month after an appeals court in Bologna nearly cut in half the sentence for a man who admitted to killing his partner. The court cited as one of its reasons for the reduction the “emotional storm” of jealousy that the killer experienced. Critics said the reduced sentence basically sanctioned the practice of “honor killings.”

Man bites off security guard’s pinky at Queens bar
FLUSHING, Queens — A man who allegedly bit off a security guard’s pinky at a Queens bar last month is being sought, police said Wednesday.
The incident happened on Feb. 16 outside of El California Sports Bar, located on the corner of Roosevelt Avenue and 76th Street in Flushing.
The security guard was closing the bar’s doors at about 4 a.m. when an unidentified man walked up to him, asking to go inside.
The two men began arguing after the guard told him the bar was closed, triggering the man to bite off a portion of the guard’s pinky before running away.
The 37-year-old victim was transported to Bellevue Hospital Center where his finger was reattached, police said.
Police are now looking for the attacker, who was last seen wearing jeans, black boots and a black jacket with Japanese iconography inscribed throughout.

FL Dad brings loaded AK-47 to school after receiving call from his crying son
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say a Florida man showed up at a junior high school with a loaded gun after his son contacted him to say a teacher had pushed him.
The Palm Beach Post reports that 27-year-old Christopher Freeman was arrested Monday afternoon at Bear Lakes Middle School and charged with aggravated assault, possessing a weapon on school property and disturbing the peace.
Palm Beach County School District police say Freeman’s son had video-called him in tears, saying a teacher had “slammed him.” Freeman told police he then saw an adult grab the boy before the call ended.
A police officer met with Freeman when he arrived at the school. The officer reported seeing what appeared to be a gun sticking out of Freeman’s pants, prompting a school lockdown. Police found a loaded AK-47 pistol during a search.
