Jordyn Woods speaks out amid Khloé, Tristan cheating scandal
Article via PageSix
Jordyn Woods isn’t waiting for her scandal to blow over.
Kylie Jenner’s maybe-former best friend stepped out at the launch event for her new Eylure false eyelashes line on Thursday night and thanked fans for their support as she attempts to navigate her feud with the Kardashian-Jenners.
“Thank you guys for coming out and supporting me through everything that’s going on,” she said, as captured by video on social media. “It’s been real …”
Woods, 21, allegedly hooked up with Tristan Thompson while he was still dating Khloé Kardashian. Khloé has since dumped Tristan, and Kim Kardashian even called her a “single mom” in the aftermath, seemingly confirming the split.
Khloé also hasn’t let her public breakup keep her down, stepping out with best friend Malika Haqq to attend the PrettyLittleThing LA Office Opening Party on Wednesday. The next day, Khloé critically addressed the scandal with quotes on her Instagram story.
“‘The worst pain is gettin [sic] hurt by a person you explained your hurt to,’” read the first quote, seemingly directed at Woods.
Although this was Woods’ first public event, she was spotted out and about in LA in an outfit that could have served as a message to Khloé and Tristan.
Woods wore a pair of sporty slides with “balance” written across one instep and “chaos” printed on the other. The sold-out men’s sandals are from Japanese brand Undercover and were originally priced at $165.

Jussie Smollett Has Been Suspended From “Empire”
The producers issued a statement on Friday, one day after Smollett was arrested for filing a false police report.
Article via BuzzfeedNews
As doubts mounted about Jussie Smollett’s story about being the victim of a hate crime, Fox and 20th Century Fox — the network and studio behind his show Empire — stood by him.
Hours before he would turn himself in to the Chicago Police Department to be charged with a felony for filing a false report, the companies issued an unprompted statement, calling Smollett “a consummate professional on set,” and reiterating that his character, Jamal Lyon, is “not being written out of the show.”
Now, with two episodes left to film in Empire‘s 18-episode season, Smollett has in fact been suspended from the soapy musical drama. The decision was announced on Friday in a statement issued by the show’s producers.
“The events of the past few weeks have been incredibly emotional for all of us. Jussie has been an important member of our EMPIRE family for the past five years and we care about him deeply. While these allegations are very disturbing, we are placing our trust in the legal system as the process plays out. We are also aware of the effects of this process on the cast and crew members who work on our show and to avoid further disruption on set, we have decided to remove the role of ‘Jamal’ from the final two episodes of the season,” read the statement from Lee Daniels, Danny Strong, Brett Mahoney, Brian Grazer, Sanaa Hamri, Francie Calfo and Dennis Hammer, the executive producers of Empire.
According to a TMZ story Thursday night, Smollett had gone straight from his bail hearing in a Chicago court that afternoon to the Empire set, delaying production. He tearfully addressed the cast and crew, saying, “”I’m sorry I’ve put you all through this and not answered any calls. I wanted to say I’m sorry and, you know me, I would never do this to any of you, you are my family. I swear to God, I did not do this.”
Through his legal team, Smollett is also sticking with the story that he was attacked. His camp issued a statement Thursday night calling him “a young man of impeccable character and integrity who fiercely and solemnly maintains his innocence.”
Smollett told police that he was attacked on Jan. 29 by two men who threw a chemical on him, called him anti-gay and racist slurs, and put a rope around his neck. They also shouted, “This is MAGA country” at him, he said.
The story garnered Smollett support from celebrities (Viola Davis, John Legend) and politicians (Cory Booker, Kamala Harris, Nancy Pelosi) alike.
But shortly after Smollett appeared on Good Morning America on Feb. 14 telling the story of the attack and ripping anyone who doubted him, two local Chicago TV affiliates reported that the attack on Smollett might be a hoax.
Over the next week, Smollett’s story seemed to unravel completely, with his alleged co-conspirators in the hoax, Olabinjo and Abimbola Osundairo, turning against him and cooperating with police. On Thursday, Smollett turned himself in to the Chicago Police Department, and later in the day he was released on $100,000 bond.
Despite how ill-conceived this alleged hoax appears to have been, the police have so far not provided a credible motive for why Smollett would want to stage a hate crime against him. On Thursday, police said that Smollett was unhappy with his salary, and that was why he did it. According to a source close to the show, Smollett never expressed dissatisfaction with his $100,000 per episode salary.
And according to multiple sources at Fox and on Empire, Smollett was never in danger of being written off the show, which was one of the theories that was leaked to the local Chicago stations. Eleven days before the alleged attack, Fox pitched a story to BuzzFeed News about Jamal’s upcoming wedding, saying that Smollett and Toby Onwumere (who plays Jamal’s fiancé) “have a great storyline this season, with an upcoming wedding in the second half of the season.”
The show returns from its winter hiatus on March 13, and there will be seven episodes that he is still in, unless Empire producers find a way to change his presence in the show.
When Empire — co-created by Lee Daniels and Danny Strong — premiered in winter 2015, it was a massive success, and finished the season as the No. 1 network show among 18-to-49 year-olds. As is often the case, its ratings have fallen off as the seasons have gone on. According to Nielsen, Empire‘s season-to-date ratings are averaging 5.1 million viewers and a 1.5 in the 18-to-49 demographic — which are still strong for a show in its fifth year.
Now the show is under threat for reasons not even Empire writers could ever dream up.

New Jersey School Bus Driver Overdoses on Drugs, Crashes With 12 Students Aboard
A school bus driver was arrested after she overdosed while driving and crashed into a tree, Newark police said.
The driver, Lisa Byrd, was transporting a dozen students from 14th Avenue School in Newark when the vehicle crashed into a tree on Wednesday, officials said in a statement.
When first responders arrived, police said they revived the 57-year-old woman with Narcan – a drug that instantly reverses the effects of overdose from heroin and other opioids.
The students, ages 5 to 13, were not injured, police said.
Byrd, who was taken to a local hospital, is facing 12 charges of endangering the welfare of a child, driving while impaired and possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.
It was not immediately clear whether Byrd has an attorney.
“Endangering the lives of Newark children is something we will not tolerate,” said Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka in a statement. “We are grateful that none of the students were injured and that no other residents were harmed due to this incident.”
The company employing the driver, F&A Transport, has been “removed from transporting children” until an investigation is completed, Newark Public Schools said in a statement.
Woman’s head found with note: ‘My husband refused to pay ransom’
A Mexican woman’s decapitated head was found in a trash bag with a note that said she was murdered because her husband “did not want to pay” her ransom, according to local reports.
The remains of businesswoman Susana Carrera were found last Wednesday in a parking lot in the city of Coatzacoalcos in Veracruz, local outlets reported.
She’d been kidnapped a week ago, while going to pick up her daughter from a friend’s house.
Video posted to Twitter shows Carrera outside her friend’s home ringing the doorbell and her kidnappers pulling up and throwing her into a car.
The captors asked for 4 million pesos or about $207,000, but the family told the Heraldo de Mexico they couldn’t afford it.
The note found with her decapitated body read: “This happened to me because my husband played the tough guy and didn’t want to pay my ransom.”
Carrera and her husband, Luis Manriquez, owned an aluminum company called Pexaliminio.
Hours after Carrera’s remains were found, her husband wrote a message on social media confirming her death, according to reports.
“Thank you very much to everyone for your prayers and wishes for my wife Susana Carrera to return home. Unfortunately, she wasn’t able to and she passed away.”
Coatzacoalcos has seen a recent increase in violence with 49 kidnappings and 160 murders there in 2018, according to the BBC.

Florida mayor opens fire at cops as they raid his home
The mayor of a Florida town opened fire at a SWAT team who raided his waterfront home and arrested him, officials said.
Port Richey Mayor Dale Massad fired two shots at officers when he was arrested Thursday on allegations of practicing medicine without a license.
The deputies announced their presence at his home on the Gulf Coast around 4:40 a.m. as they attempted to serve a search warrant.
Shots were fired when officers entered, but they retreated and didn’t return the gunfire, officials said. No deputies were injured in the shooting.
“He’s lucky he’s not dead,” Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco said at a press conference.
The 68-year-old mayor surrendered to authorities and was taken to Pasco County Jail.
Authorities said they received information that Massad — whose medical license was revoked in 1992 — was still treating patients at his home.
Massad faces charges for attempted murder and practicing medicine without a license.

He used a dating app to meet a woman, but ended up shot in the buttocks
PETERSBURG, Va. – Police in Petersburg, Virginia, are investigating an attempted robbery and shooting linked to a dating app.
Sources told WTVR that the victim thought he was meeting a woman. However, when he arrived to a dark, narrow Petersburg street Wednesday morning, someone was waiting to rob him.
“What happened at 5 o’clock this morning really scared me and got me still nervous,” Jacinta Mitchell said from a Ferndale Avenue front porch.
The Mitchell family was awakened by someone banging on the front door just before 5 a.m.
“It was very, very, very, very shocking and scary,” Mitchell said about the man yelling that he had been shot and calling out for help.
Mitchell called 911 and her daughter yelled out the locked front door that police and EMS were on the way.
“I didn’t open up my door because I didn’t know who it was or what was going on,” Mitchell explained.
Sources told WTVR that the victim had been using a dating app and thought he was meeting a woman on Leavenworth Street.
However, he found someone that tried to rob him, sources said. The victim was shot in the buttocks and took off running, eventually turning on Ferndale and running about three blocks before stopping at Mitchell’s house.
“No idea who he was,” Mitchell said. “Never seen him a day in my life.”
Similar circumstances happened in the same neighborhood on May 12, 2017.
In that instance, law enforcement warned the public that robbers were using dating websites and meet-up apps to target their victims.
What often starts with a voluptuous photograph of a woman posted on a dating website or app like Plenty of Fish, Tinder and Backpage ends in a robbery on a dark street in Petersburg, police warned at the time.
At that time, Petersburg Police said they were working about five cases, including one involving a man being shot.
Investigators warned that people need to be careful meeting people in an unfamiliar area and to understand they could be targeted for robbery.
