A Black Security Guard Was Killed By Police As He Tried To Stop A Shooting
A black security guard was shot dead by a police officer as he held down a suspect in a shooting at the bar where he worked.
Jemel Roberson, 26, was working early Sunday at Manny’s Blue Room ― a bar in the predominantly black Chicago suburb of Robbins, Illinois ― when a patron who was part of a drunken group that had been kicked out returned with a gun at 4 a.m. and opened fire, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Several people were shot.
Roberson, who was armed at the time, grabbed one of the men, held him down and waited for police, according to witnesses.
“He had somebody on the ground with his knee in back, with his gun in his back like, ‘Don’t move,’” Adam Harris told WGN-TV.
But witnesses said Roberson became the victim as soon as police arrived. A responding officer with the Midlothian Police Department immediately shot Roberson, who later died at a hospital.
Harris said the officer shot an innocent man and that people on the scene tried to warn police that Roberson was a security guard.
“Everybody was screaming out, ‘Security!’ He was a security guard … and they still did their job, and saw a black man with a gun, and basically killed him,” Harris said.
Midlothian Police Chief Dan Delaney confirmed the shooting, telling reporters, “A Midlothian officer encountered a subject with a gun and was involved in an officer-involved shooting.” The department said the Illinois State Police Public Integrity Task Force would investigate the shooting in order to “ensure transparency and maintain public trust.”
Roberson was known as a musician at local churches who had dreams of becoming a police officer, people who knew him told ABC-7 and WGN-TV.
“How in the world does the security guard get shot by police?” asked Walter Turner, the pastor at New Spiritual Light Baptist Church, where Roberson played the organ. “A young man that was literally doing his job and now he’s gone.”
Calls to the Illinois State Police and Midlothian Police Department weren’t immediately returned. The Cook County Sheriff’s office is reportedly investigating the initial shooting.
From August 2016 to May of this year, at least 378 black Americans had been killed by police, and more than 3,357 people have been fatally shot by officers since 2015, HuffPost reported in May.
Robin Thicke and girlfriend lose home to California fires
Robin Thicke and girlfriend April Love Geary have lost their Malibu home as a result of the California wildfires. Taking to Instagram on Saturday, Geary, 23, posted a photo of what remains to be their front gate.
“Our house is gone,” the model shared to her story.
Both Geary and Thicke, 41, who are expecting their second child together, have been keeping fans up to date as fires continue to ravage California. On Friday, the singer revealed he and his family had been ordered to evacuate.
“Family is safe! Praying for everyone out here!” Thicke shared on social media.
“I’m so sad but so thankful that we all made it out safe,” Geary penned. “Praying for everyone in Malibu, our city is up in flames ?.”
Geary and Thicke are among a number of celebrities who have been affected by the wildfires, including Kim Kardashian, Martin Sheen and Caitlyn Jenner. As of Saturday, the death toll had risen to 25.
A rep for Thicke didn’t immediately return our request for comment.
Yves Saint Laurent launches controversial penis jewelry
They’re not what we’d choose to wear for Sunday lunch with our grandma but if you’re a fan of jewelry that’s a little bit different — look no further.
Designer brand Yves Saint Laurent has just released a controversial new line of jewelry and it includes a rather graphic pair of penis earrings and a penis pendant necklace.
The engraved penises are made of golden brass and the earrings retail for about $280 while the penis pendant is priced at a staggering $680.
The “Penis Dangle” hook earrings are for pierced ears only and are engraved with “Saint Laurent Paris,” while the graphic necklace features an adjustable chain and a sizeable penis pendant charm.
Much to the disappointment of one fan on Twitter both styles are only available in store.
“Where do I get the ysl penis earrings and necklace i WANT RHEM [sic,]” they wrote.
YSL isn’t the only brand releasing X-rated jewelry.
A few years ago Kesha dropped a collection of penis-shaped accessories including earrings, charms, bracelets and a necklace.
The range was part of her “Grow A Pear” jewelry line by Charles Albert.
One year later, Tom Ford also released a phallic design — a penis pendant necklace which caused major controversy because it appeared to be in the shape of a cross.
If penis jewelry is your thing, but you don’t fancy forking out, Etsy is selling heaps of styles.

Mother of 5 sitting on porch eating breakfast killed by stray bullet
St. Petersburg, FL (WFTS) — Police arrested a man who they said killed a woman sitting on her porch on Sunday morning.
Aesha Kendrick, a mother of five, was on her porch eating breakfast when she was shot. The shooting happened around 10 a.m. off 45th Street South.
St. Petersburg Police said a man standing on the corner across the street from Kendrick’s home fired a gun. Officers said the shooter was aiming at a pick-up truck that was passing by, but the bullets hit Kendrick.
According to police, a neighbor performed CPR, keeping her alive until help arrived.
Kendrick’s father, Paul Lucas Jr., spoke to his daughter about an hour before the shooting. Lucas said she was supposed to start a new job Monday.
“I wish it (would have) been me instead of her. It’s hard burying your only child. I’m 70-years-old. I lived most of my life,” Lucas said.
Kendrick died at the hospital.
“It’s up to God to forgive them because, right now, I can’t forgive them,” Lucas said.
Police charged Jamel Walker, 29, with 2nd Degree Murder for Kendrick’s death and attempted murder for shooting at the pick-up truck.
“I feel sorry for them that they (have) wasted my daughter’s life and {the lives of my grandchildren} and my life – behind all this craziness with these guns,” Lucas said.
Kim Kardashian Speaks Out on California Wildfires and Asks For Help During Emotional Speech
The Kardashian family shared a heartfelt message of support and appreciation for those affected by the California wildfires, and those fighting the infernos, during their acceptance speech at this year’s People’s Choice Awards on Sunday.
After presenter Chrissy Teigen announced Keeping Up With the Kardashians as the winner for Best Reality Show of 2018, Kim Kardashian-West, Kris Jenner, Kourtney Kardashian, Khloé Kardashian and Kendall Jenner took to the stage at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, where Kim spoke on behalf of her family.
“It’s been a really rough week in our home in Calabasas, Hidden Hills, and for our neighbors in Thousand Oaks and Malibu,” Kim shared, somberly. “Our hearts are broken from the horrific shootings and for those who have lost their lives and homes, as well as the hundreds of thousands of us that have been evacuated from the devastating fires that are currently burning.”
Kim and a number of her family members have been among the tens of thousands who have been evacuated from their homes due to the raging Woolsey Fire and Hill Fire that have been tearing through Southern California, as well as those who have been evacuated due to the deadly Camp Fire burning north of Sacramento.
“As horrible as this has been, it’s been amazing to see the resilient spirit of everyone involved, and the heroism of those risking their lives on the front lines,” Kim continued. “Action is necessary, so anything we can do to help, as simple as donating to the many organization that are collecting supplies, no form of help is too small.”
“Our country is stronger when we come together and we cannot face devastation alone,” she continued. “We must continue to reach out and help each other during these trying times.”
A number of other celebs, including Camille Grammer, Gerard Butler, Robin Thicke, Lady Gaga, Orlando Bloom, Caitlyn Jenner and many others, were forced to evacuate by the Woolsey Fire. Some, like Butler, have already returned to find their homes totally or partially destroyed.
They join the ranks of nearly 260,000 other residents in Los Angeles County and Ventura County who have been forced to flee their homes due to the fires, which have already scorched over 80,000 acres.
Firefighters from across the state, as well as those from neighboring states, have been working tirelessly on multiple fronts, to contain the blazes and combat the devastation of these horrifying wildfires.
“We would like to dedicate this win to all of the firefighters, the law enforcement and the first responders,” Kim said during the acceptance speech. “We really, truly appreciate what you have done for all of us. So please, let’s continue to pray for everyone’s safety.”
On Sunday, ET spoke with Jamie Foxx at the premiere of Robin Hood in New York City, where the actor revealed that many members of his family living in Thousand Oaks have been evacuated and are currently staying in a hotel until they learn the fate of their homes.
“I can’t tell people enough, in a world right now where it’s sort of crazy times to just look for the good in people. Stop looking for the bad in people,” Fox said. “And just pray for the kids, man, pray for everybody in California. People are losing their whole existence. we were fortunate enough to be able to move but a lot of people aren’t, so just god bless all.”

The 49-year-old On the Floor singer was also reportedly not shy to get involved. Sources told the outlet that ‘J-Lo’s presence blindsided Cynthia.
Things went from bad to worse when Lopez allegedly suggested that Rodriguez should only pay 3.6 million naira ($10,000) in child support a month, instead of the approximately 36 million naira ($100,000) he has been paying.
It is also reported that Jenny from the block is not backing down either, and has continued to try to direct the unfortunate situation.
“She’s driving the bus,” said one source in regards to Rodriguez’s thoughts on the matter.

Naomi Campbell Re-Wore Her Look From Marc Jacobs’s 1993 Grunge Show
In terms of iconic ready-to-wear collections, Marc Jacobs’s Spring 1993 offering for Perry Ellis ranks high on the list of those that drastically changed the fashion landscape. Instead of sticking to the clean designs that were in vogue at that time, Jacobs tapped the energy of the grunge and punk scene instead, sending out clothes that were decidedly dressed down and shockingly unpolished. (It was such new territory that it eventually got him fired from the label.)
One can’t deny the show was ground-breaking. With supermodels such as Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, Carla Bruni, and Christy Turlington all walking down the catwalk in slip dresses and combat boots, the presentation made the case for edgy, street-driven looks before streetwear was even a thing—and now one of the show’s original supers is bringing that aesthetic back.
Following recent news that Jacobs is re-releasing that same Perry Ellis collection this month — 26 looks will be recreated and sold — Campbell took to Instagram to share an ultimate fashion throwback of herself in the same exact look she originally wore on the runway more than two decades ago. (And she’s never looked better, FYI.) Look 62 was a black and yellow printed wrap dress styled over a white top and finished with leather Dr. Marten boots. A rainbow-striped beanie gave it that artfully clashed feel. As Campbell so masterfully shows here, the outfit was good then — but it’s even more relevant now.
