2 Sisters Beat 3-Year-Old to Death With Baseball Bat After He Took A Cupcake
Two sisters in Atlanta, Georgia, are accused of beating a 3-year-old to death after he snuck a cupcake from the kitchen.
Lashirley and Glenndria Morris were both indicted on felony murder charges over the death of Kejuan Mason, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
On Oct. 21, 2017, police got a call from a home on Cleveland Avenue in Southwest Atlanta, according to WCNC. When they got there they found medical personnel already performing CPR on Kejuan
A police report stated that “From what I observed the house was infested with roaches.”
The pair currently remain in Fulton County jail.
During the incident, Lashirley used a baseball bat to beat Kejuan repeatedly on different parts of his body, according to a statement issued by the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office on Tuesday, Jan. 30.
At the same time, Glenndria, the child’s legal guardian, spanked the boy for eating the cupcake.
The 3-year-old was transported to Atlanta Medical center where he was pronounced dead. Paramedics at the scene said the child appeared not to be breathing for a while already, WCNC reported.
A report from the medical examiner’s office stated that the boy died from blunt force trauma.
If convicted, the sisters face life in prison, without the possibility of parole.
Glenndria told police initially that the boy had choked on a cupcake. She said another man had tried to do CPR and said that the emergency response took too much time. But she then changed her story, telling police the cupcake was removed and that the boy seemed to be fine.

Mother’s boyfriend, social worker charged after 5-year-old found buried in backyard
CLEVELAND – Prosecutors announced the indictments of a social worker and the boyfriend of an Ohio woman whose 5-year-old boy was found buried in a backyard, according to WJW.
Investigators unearthed the remains of 5-year-old Jordan Rodriguez behind a house on West 80th Street in Cleveland Dec. 19. Court documents said the body showed multiple signs of abuse, including broken ribs.
His mother, 34-year-old Larissa Rodriguez, was charged with murder, felonious assault, endangering children and gross abuse of a corpse. She pleaded not guilty and her bond was set at $1 million. On Wednesday, Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael O’Malley announced that her boyfriend, Christopher Rodriguez, has been indicted on the same charges.
A social worker, Nancy Caraballo, also faces charges in the investigation. O’Malley said Caraballo worked for Bright Beginnings, which is funded by Cuyahoga County and the state of Ohio, and bought more than $10,000 in food stamps from Rodriguez.
Caraballo was assigned to the family to make home visitations. O’Malley said she ignored her obligation to report the abuse and neglect because she was receiving the food stamps as a bribe. She allegedly paid 50 cents for each $1 in food stamps.
Caraballo could be sentenced to 50 years in prison. If it’s determined that malnutrition played a role in Jordan’s death, she would face additional charges, according to O’Malley.
The Cleveland Division of Police began investigating the case after receiving a call from Pakistan. The caller said Larissa Rodriquez and her boyfriend, Christopher Rodriguez, buried the boy in the backyard, according to the police report. Investigators say the caller was Christopher Rodriguez’s brother.
Jordan had not been seen alive since September. Prosecutors said he suffered from multiple ailments and his mother failed to get him medical attention.
Larissa Rodriguez has nine children and is pregnant. A Cuyahoga County spokeswoman said child welfare case workers have dealt with Rodriguez since 1999. The complaints range from neglect to physical abuse.
No Prison Time for Man Who Raped Teen at Church Camp
Benjamin Petty, a cook at a Baptist church camp in Oklahoma, pleaded guilty to tying up a 13-year-old camper, raping her, sodomizing her, and threatening her if she told anyone, the Oklahoman reports.
Despite pleading guilty to three felonies, Petty was sentenced to 15 years probation with no prison time earlier this month. While Petty’s attorney says his client “certainly is being punished”—he must wear an ankle monitor for 24 months and register as a sex offender—others find the sentence issued by Judge Wallace Coppedge on Jan. 19 lacking, according to the AP.
“Failure to hold perpetrators accountable … sends the wrong message to victims of crime,” says the executive director of the Oklahoma Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault.
Assistant district attorney David Pyle says he didn’t push for prison time because of the state of Petty’s vision. “The big thing is Mr. Petty is legally blind and the parents (of the victim) live out of state and this little girl lives out of state and didn’t want to make all the travels back and forth,” he says.
“The plea was negotiated with their permission.” The victim’s family has filed a civil suit against three churches involved in the camp—the largest youth camp in the US—alleging they didn’t run background checks, KFOR reports.
In the civil case, one of the churches is pushing for the victim’s “prior history of voluntary sexual activity” to be introduced. An attorney for the victim says they “are saddened to see that the church has stooped to victim-blaming.”
