Man gets 27 years in prison after shooting 3 women who wouldn’t sing Happy Birthday to girlfriend

A Minnesota man who shot 3 women last year at a birthday party has Ben sentenced to 27 years in prison.

20 year old Delonte Thomas was sentenced on Monday of one count of attempted first degree murder and three counts of attempted second degree murder.

On July 9th, 2014, Thomas and his girlfriend attended a party in Minneapolis. The attendants sang “Happy Birthday” to the guest of honor but not to Thomas’ girlfriend who also shared the same birthday. This in turn caused him to get upset and leave the party only to come back with a semiautomatic handgun.

He shot the woman who chose not to sing, 9 times, he shot another woman 8 times, one bullet hitting her chest, and another woman 8 times in the leg.

All three women survived but required surgery for their wounds. His defense lawyers argued that he should only serve 16 years while the Hennepin County attorney thought he should get 40.

The judge decided in 27 years to split the desired years in prison. Thomas requested leniency during his sentencing.

My thoughts, this guy is an idiot for throwing his life away over something petty like a birthday song. Well he’ll have plenty of time to think about the idiot mistake he’s made.
